Tell me about cos

What do you buy from there? What's the fit like? Is it expensive or expensive for what it is? What's their online shopping like, any good?

There was a massive thread about Cos a few months ago you may find useful.

It seems to be a very marmite place on this board. It markets a definite style aesthetic; minimal, androgynous, simple lines which is not to everyones tastes or body types. However, just because Cos has decided to present themselves this way, doesn't mean individual items can't be worn to suit other styles. e.g. they do basics very well; plain t-shirts and shirts slim or loose cut, round or v-neck cardigans of varying lengths and weights of knit, plain trousers in most cuts and rises. Their USP, to me, is how they twist and fold the material to create some great details, how they cut the fabric to make it hang slightly off, always differently to the usual frills and pleats most shops tend to design with.

It's also one of the few high street shops selling natural fibres at an affordable price. Their 100% wool knitwear is IMO some of the best on the high street and definitely good value for money when compared to the rubbish quality the likes of Whistles or Toast (nowadays) put out at a higher price. I think the quality meets the price.

BUT - the sizing is all over the place and in pictures and on hangers doesn't do some things justice. You really need to try things on. Luckily their changing rooms are nice, and the staff never rush you and let you try loads on.

Online service is great and their customer service easy to get hold and helpful, I've found. But they rarely do free delivery, and refunds can take a few weeks as they ship back to Sweden.

Oh, and it's part of the H&M group if you didn't know, or that makes a difference. Same as &Other Stories.

Good value for what you get mostly. Decent fabrics, interestingshapes and well cut for the high street.

Really need to try things on. Something that looks good on the hanger might have an odd detail that doesn't suit you and something that looks a bit meh on the hanger can be amazing.

Dresses are probably my favourite thing from there. I'm not a big dress wearer but most I do have will be from Cos. Pockets! Decent lengths! Sleeves!

I've bought so many clothes from Cos over the last few years that I may have been responsible for their profitability in the UK. I'd totally agree with megansmandstop that trying on is important and that the quality is good. My particular favourites have been their jumpers and cardigans, but also their oversized shirts, and their dresses - I'm not a very "girly" person and these dresses work perfectly for me. I also like the way that even very standard items have a slight quirk to them, and they also tend to roll out the same item in different colours over the years, which is great if you find something you like.

Someone described the Cos look to me as 'sexy dentist' and I think that's spot on. It's a very particular aesthetic which I don't like but must look good on some.

The more I buy and wear things from COS the more I love it. Their cut and attention to detail is fab. I buy online and haven't had a problem with sizing, I'm consistently a 38 or S as an hourglass size 10. I tend to buy the stuff that looks plain and boring (but actually isn't), I'm not tall and straight enough to carry off their gorgeous pleating.

Excellent answer to “tell me about Cos” by megan. I’m not near a store but picked up a few things last time I was in London. I’ll be checking out their spring offerings soon.

megansmandstop · 04/02/2018 08:45

I've also been impressed with Arket, from the same H&M group. It's like a basics Cos, possible slightly higher prices but not much more, natural fibres and an attempt at ethical credentials. I don't have a store near so have only bought online but service was great, refunds quicker than Cos (not sure why?!).

I mainly mention because their sale was fantastic, they did an extra 15% towards the end and I got a few cotton shirts and pure wool sweaters all for under £20 each. Original prices all between £50-100. Sadly ended now but worth a bookmark for next time!

I love their style. Quite androgynous so you have to be quite well groomed to pull it off. Check out stacey dooleys insta, she’s a fan.
I always buy knitwear in the sale and their jewellery is fab. Fit is usually pretty true/ generous.

HRTpatch · 04/02/2018 09:34

I have a few bits and love it.

Berrygoodteeth · 04/02/2018 09:36

I only buy their outwear or coats- I’ve got the most insanely gorgeous black wool belted coat which I’ve had for five years and dry cleans like a dream. Cost £300 but worth every penny. Some of their dresses are a bit ‘Art Teacher’ for my style but their white shirts and basics are lovely

PinPon · 04/02/2018 09:51

Love the fact that most of their dresses have pockets. Knitwear also worth recommending.

GinandGingerBeer · 04/02/2018 09:51

If I look on the website I can never see a thing I like.
If I go into store I could spend a fortune.
It’s lovely quality, always hangs well, washes well and it’s a bit different. Their jewellery is nice too, bit quirky and reasonably priced.
