How to pick a salon for waxing?

I've decided since I'm too lazy to shave to get my legs and underarms waxed but have no idea how to pick which salon to use. What should I be looking for?

Also does it matter if I haven't shaved for ages and the hair is very long? Blush

Where are you?

Most places are fine - just find a nice looking salon and go for it - usually the beauticians are friendly and it doesn't matter how long he hair it but they may give it a trim before hand (underarm may be sore Confused)I got a Brazilian recently and it's hard to not be shy but they have seen it ALL before so don't worry.

I've changed salons about but never really had a bad wax in the same way I've had disappointing nails or facials or similar.

I think there tends to be a ceiling price for an area so you'll probably find all your local salons are within a couple of pounds for the same treatments. Means it's hardly worth shopping around.

I get some beauty stuff done at my local hairdressers, to fill in the gap during a colour, but wouldn't have waxing done there at the treatment room is a bit exposed so that's something I'd think of if booking a new place.

Take painkillers before you go - underarms hurt!

Thank you.

Any decent salon for waxing will offer both strip wax and hot wax - strip for larger areas like legs or arms, and hot wax for intimate areas

A really decent salon will have a high quality hot wax like Lycon wax - well well worth the extra ££ for a bikini wax, as it's significantly less painful and gives significantly better results in my experience (hurts less, don't get any redness or irritation or ingrowns)

For legs and arms it's less of an issue as strip wax is more much of a muchness. But if they don't offer hot wax on the menu at all, that would suggest to me they weren't particularly hot on waxing (so to speak)

Do you have any friends/family that could recommend somewhere?
80% of my clients are recommendations and have been coming to me for many years.

Good waxing will have two things

Experienced staff and brilliant hygiene practices.

A lady who has no certificate or portfolio who double dips the spatula, nope, run to fuck.

A lady who has lots of previous clients with positive reviews and is fully trained and uses a fresh wooden spatula each time. Yes, she is good, go to her.

I don't know how to pick a good salon for waxing. But I'll tell you how I picked a bloody awful one.

For me, I was trying my first Brazilian wax (bold move, I know). So I google, Brazlian wax salons near me. It takes me to Treatwell.com, which initially seemed like a great idea. It lists salons in your proximity, has rating scales etc. Perfect! So I find a local one, has good Treatwell reviews, book a time and pay.

Here's where it goes terribly wrong!

  • I arrive at salon for my early booked appointment (9am-ish).

Woman who works there looks a little befuddled at me, clealry not expecting me or knowing anything about the booking. Nevermind! I don't let that deter me.

Place looks very shoddy & run down. But I think, so what! This woman could be an excellent waxer, despite the decoration needing updating.

I lay on the table with wheels, in a tiny make shift room. She asks me to make my legs like a frog (feet together like a diamond). As I do that, I realise my legs are actually too long for this, she can't fit around them as the rooms too small, then I notice a massive hole in the ceiling like a peeping Tom's paradise. I sit there and wonder if I'm being secretly filmed and where it will be broadcasted. She puts the wax on, rips it off 10000/10 pain. Barely any hair comes off just bruising and pain. She then DOUBLE DIPS. Which you're not suppose to do as this spreads diseases and contamination. If the stick used to wax everyone is dipped into the wax pot and mixed up, this is a NO GO.

What can I do?! I'm doing a frog pose with double dipped wax/STI/HIV wax on my downstairs, wondering what peeping Tom channel I'm going to be featured on.

In the end, she had to stop because she said "I've never seen anyones downstairs go as red as yours". I was left patchy, sticky, bruised and bleeding. Hurried out of there SO QUICKLY.

Never to return.

End of story: Do not trust Treatwell.

Hope your experience is better, RUN if they attempt to double dip!

banana There is one salon that uses only Lycon wax near me. It also looks lovely and clean from the outside. I might try them then.

lampshade unfortunately not. My mother (only other female in my family) has never had a wax in her life and I think my friends only shave.

cupcake & Olives I'd never even thought about them double dipping Shock - yuckEnvy
