New thread for those hoping to add a bit of Parisian je ne sais quoi and je m'en fous to their style.

I love collage 3 in particular clemence poesy's outfit. Will I find similar trousers if I search for cigarette trousers?
Also looked at the link you posted for your DS' excellent coat OC! I have inherited a pure silk jacket from a much loved relative. It's similar to some others on that site. Like this but in black silk, all embellishments/embroidery also black shibumistyle.com/en/r1145-anya-jacket-in-ebony_cashmere---tree-of-life.html
How can I style it to make it have a modern edge?

Methenyouplus4 · 04/04/2018 08:26

Just checking in. I'be been reading along but fere I've had very little to contribute. I am.in the north of England which seems to be stuck in eternal grey, wet winter. I feel bored with picking clothes and (other than work) seem to just be permanently in my rain coat. I do need to pay more attention to things like scarf/hat/gloves etc in same colour palette as have totally lost my way.

I'm going into the nearest city centre today (to sit in the dark kids club cinema!) but going to make an effort with a red lip.

It's made me realise that although we complain about the weather in England, it's (normally) changeable seasons does give you a chance to mix up your style (I have a touch of Boho in my sumber style which is not reflected at any other time of year). I am starting to miss that after about 6 months of snow/wet etc.

OCSockOrphanage · 04/04/2018 12:11

Who was admiring the MD suede trench coat, and rejected it? Searching for a warm wool crew neck sweater to fulfil exacting DS' requirements, I came across this and wondered: in the sale at a decent price and their stuff can be lovely, but it depends on whether you're still interested and whether the size is right.

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 04/04/2018 15:22

@OCSockOrphanage that was me! The M.D. one was like chamois leather. I may order that to see how it fits in RL. Although I did spend the money on other things ☺️

OCSockOrphanage · 04/04/2018 15:33

Ha! If it's something you've been on the lookout for...

quirkychick · 04/04/2018 16:58

Checking in too, life has been a bit hectic, but not too hectic for a red lip Wink.

OCSock lovely trench, I agree it's probably gorgeous quality as Celtic & Co are normally lovely.

Love the collages, bo, I love number 2, but agree it's more formal and collage 3, I want Clemence Poesy's trousers. I used to have a similar blouse from a vintage shop as a student.

Methen I veer towards boho in the summer too, we have got sunshine here today, but, most of Easter weekend was a wash out. I've managed to wear my black trench, the last few days. I think the reason I like it is it's quite fitted around the shoulders, without the epaulettes/flaps etc. which can bulk up my shoulders, so it's quite flattering.

peonylover22 · 04/04/2018 22:57

Still reading the older threads... Have we done summer scarves yet? I’ve read enough to realise that I need / want one, but not really sure where to start looking for one. Ever optimistic that it will one day be summer, or at least no longer winter! I’d like something to wear with my new MD navy wool blazer. I think I’m a winter (I suit jewel colours). Budget up to £100. Any ideas of where to start my hunt?

ToElleWithIt · 06/04/2018 08:05

I only wear scarves in winter Peonylover so no help.

Bloomed could you do a boyfriend jean with roll up and white / grey t-shirt with the jacket? It's lovely.

I order the trousers hangs head in shame. I see majestic filatures (shop of the nice t-shirt) have 15% off later today. Has anyone any thoughts on linen / elastane as a blend. I love the idea of linen for summer holidays. I presume the elastane should help it keep it's shape. coral t-shirt

I chickened out of ordering the J Crew swimsuit after the bad experience with the shirt. This Seafolly one in in a store near me so I think I'll try it on. Looks like a nice classic shape I think? www.seafolly.com/au/active-deep-v-one-piece/10634-058.html

That's a good point about the seasons methenyouplus4. I typically haven't put away winter clothes in the past, but I'm going to do it this year.

Navy velvet jeans today with a white t-shirt and a pale pink loose knit.

ToElle I used to put away autumn/winter clothes and get out spring/summer clothes, so twice a year, but have moved to changing each season. I tend to change over gradually, as British weather is so temperamental! I've got out a few things for spring already: a pale green cashmere knit, a green tweed jacket and have a few more to clean/wash: a blue trench, white anthropologie top etc. I've put away (in a vacuum bag in a bottom drawer, so still accessible) my warmest scarves and hats, but still have some to hand until it's a bit milder, I haven't yet put away my warmest jumpers, though. Navy velvet jeans sound gorgeous btw.

Bloomed · 06/04/2018 11:35

Thanks ToElle! I have some pale boyfriends I can try.

Bloomed · 06/04/2018 12:11

Quirky do your clothes get creased?

OCSockOrphanage · 06/04/2018 13:09

I don't wear scarves much in summer either Peony, unless it's to add warmth over a sleeveless dress in the evening. I have a drawerful of stoles, inherited and acquired over 35 years, in materials from gold organza to thick silk velvet, and all the colours I regularly wear Blush. Post-meno, I don't feel the cold quite as much.

peonylover22 · 06/04/2018 13:44

ToElle I love that swimsuit. Let us know how you get on!
QuirkyChick your summer clothes sound lovely - can we see photos of your outfits when you wear them? I must try and be more disciplined with the putting away of the winter cashmere as the moths had quite the feast last summer Angry
I am wearing a Breton fine knit, rolled up skinnies, red ballet pumps, new navy MD blazer, navy bag and sheer red Chanel lips today. I know the Breton, especially when combined with the red shoes, is not v Parisienne but I’m feeling really happy and put together in my outfit.

AuldAlliance · 06/04/2018 14:11

Elle nice swimsuit...keep us posted.

Peony, that sounds like a nice outfit, easy to wear but elegant.

Bloomed, I pack away winter/summer stuff at the change of season (easier to do here than in the UK...).
I think that after living for 9yrs in a seasonless place, I enjoyed returning to seasons so much that the process was a way of marking them. It's also an opportunity to overhaul things, spot what needs mending/replacing, etc.
It gets a bit creased in storage but I wash it on a quickwash and iron it when I unpack it. Part of the ritual...

Spring has sprung here, but storm warnings for next week.

Bloomed · 06/04/2018 14:26

I will pack away winter clothes this weekend. You've inspired me! I have empty high shelves in my wardrobe that I can't reach without mountaineering, so I'll use them. Hasn't been a 'good news' winter so look forward to changing things up!

AuldAlliance · 06/04/2018 15:57

You'll never look back.
(Or maybe you will, and curse me ;))

Seriously, I do think it's nice to note changing seasons. If the past one has been gloomy, all the more reason to pack it up and move on.

ToElleWithIt · 06/04/2018 15:58

Any tips for packing away - any avoiding the dreaded moths?!

AuldAlliance · 06/04/2018 16:05

I pack each woollen (clean) in a plastic bag.
I hoard the ones you get individual items in with online clothing deliveries for this and reseal them. Then they go in a vacuum-type sealed bag, or a canvas storage bag.
I put a couple of lavender bags (or a bunch of dried vetiver, but it's hard to come by around here) into each bigger bag.
Seems to work.

OP posts:
AuldAlliance · 06/04/2018 16:08

Blimey, that second sentence is a bit densely packed...sorry.

I roll things up rather than folding them flat - apart from the woollens, as they go into the bags more easily if they're flat.

I may have devoted too much thought to this Blush

What do you think to these bikini options? My brief is navy, with very plain bottoms and more going on up top (pear shape) with decent support for boobs (not big but alas no longer perky)
Option 1: is there a bit too much going on on the top??? A bit too nautical?! I am wearing stripes and red today so my brain might be addled...

peonylover22 · 06/04/2018 18:12

Option 2: this is more what I was hoping for except it is black, not navy. This would be ideal in navy and white, except that that style doesn’t seem to exist

I like the first bikini: once on you'd only have a glimpse of red from the front.

quirkychick · 07/04/2018 08:23

I've been putting away some winter clothes into vacuum bags, this year I've bought some acana anti-moth sachets to put in too (they were recommended on the tips thread). Usually, it hasn't been too bad with moths, but I did lose a toast burgundy merino jumper dress to moths. Weirdly, nothing else in the vacuum bag was touched. I always wash/clean everything before and after it's stored, so I suppose it doesn't matter if it's creased. I have only just started to wash and collect together my really warm, wool jumpers, not sure it's quite warm enough to pack them away yet.

This article is from last summer, but thought it was interesting. There's a bit about summer scarves too www.harpersbazaar.com/uk/fashion/shows-trends/news/g38095/french-style-updates love the red dress.

OCSockOrphanage · 07/04/2018 12:59

Our coat arrived this morning... pics of DS modelling it. Should we keep or return? No pics of me. On me, I am told it looks "imperial" and "powerful", and I'm not sure what to make of that!
