Classic Parisian/minimalist capsule wardrobe thread.

Thought I would start a thread for anyone who is interested in discussing their essential finds along minimalist/Parisian lines.

Inspired by the Unfancy blog I have donated most of my old wardrobe and am starting from scratch on the ‘less is more’ principle and am concentrating on buying good quality basics and using accessories to update these.

My wardrobe is based around navy, black, grey, taupe, stone and white with plain silver jewellery. Shoes wise I am sticking to tan, navy and black with white trainers for summer.

I have identified the shapes I suit are longline, clean lines and mainly plain colours with a few stripes here and there by way of pattern. The stuff I have found that works for me has come from The White Company and Next. Most of the White Company stuff I have managed to pick up from EBay.

Here are some of my best basics and accessories...

What have been your best finds lately to update stuff?

I like this thread , I'm going to hang about for jackets and jumper suggestions, my jackets and coats are where I'm going wrong in life.

Could I as a size 18 Apple look that stylish?
I'm snooping for inspiration 🙂

OF Course! You just need to identify your strengths and niggles and work around them 🙂

For those who have gone down the capsule route -what are your essentials and where do you shop?

I really want some good quality items but am on a limited budget so happy to pick up stuff like cashmere second hand etc. Personally I rate the older stuff from Pure Collection and Johnstons of Elgin.

I like a lot of the styling of the plainer stuff from Jigsaw but find them expensive for the quality so any recommendations along those lines would be most welcome. 🙂

Has anyone seen a tan leather bag with silver hardwear that can be worn over the shoulder? Medium to large size.

Ooh I need this thread! Mid 40's and still don't really know what suits me but I'm definitely learning to be wary of prints, brights and haphazard accessorising. Funnily enough after avoiding black for a few years as apparently "it's ageing " I'm finding I'm going back to it but maybe just not head-to-toe!
I'm going to join you all to get ideas and inspiration and shall indeed share any good finds. I've decided that whenever I see a chic lady (especially of a certain age Smile!) they are often wearing trousers not jeans. So I'm now looking for beautifully cut trousers that don't cost the earth!
Frankie - have you tried Aldo for footwear? I find the quality really good and their sales can be good.

Lateish 40s here and going through a similar wardrobe cull and realisation that actual fashion doesn't suit me, as in the looks of the season etc. I've got really tired of buying cheap crap in H&M and Topshop (must be my age Grin & although you can sometimes pick up a quality piece in both places, generally I avoid them like the plague now. I used to shop in both religiously during my 20s and 30s. Most of my clothes now are from Sezane, Hush (for staples like their ruched jersey skirts & the Tara and Tina dresses), Uniqlo (for plain jumpers, t-shirts) and the odd piece from Boden, Joules and Seasalt (nothing too obvious, mainly classic Bretons and the occasional summer dress). I've also got some J Crew (jeggings, jeans and sale cashmere) and some Jaeger that I love, and a couple of quite dressy dresses from Hobbs and All Saints. Also very much in the plain neutral shades camp too!!!

Hi there - mainly lurking on these boards these days, but loving the limited colours.

Any idea where I can buy longline grey/navy jumpers with v-neck? Everything I see is round neck or too short for me.

Frankiewears · 01/02/2018 20:40

trump
I love Jaeger for coats and joules for Breton tops too.

curtains Woolovers is good for plain, basic jumpers.

They have this Woolovers one in the sale in three different shades of grey if it is the sort of thing you have in mind.
