School tights?

A bit of a boring one - where do you get school tights?

I would rather pay more for good quality. I need either dark charcoal grey or red.

I have ruled out John Lewis and Tesco for shrinking and being saggy, Marks and Spencer for just being tubes rather than having heels.

Next are OK, especially the cable ones, but never seem to have any in stock, and seem to have stopped selling red cable tights anyway.

Anywhere else that sells good tights that don't sag or shrink?

Sorry I can't help but bumping because I'm desperate to know this too.

AllButterShortbread · 30/01/2018 13:09

The best ones we’ve had are Next followed by M&S but I see you’ve already mentioned them. Asda a crap. Ditto Aldi. M&S being tubes didn’t cause a problem for dd and they lasted two winters so good value overall.

PaddlingShoes · 30/01/2018 13:11

I've tried all sorts but the best ones I've found are from Primark! Really! £4 for a pack of 3 so nothing to lose in trying them out!

SavoyCabbage · 30/01/2018 13:14

I’ve always had John Lewis ones and I’ve never had any problems with them. M&S thermal ones for when it’s extra cold.

JDSTER · 30/01/2018 13:16

Came on to say M&S but I see you don’t like them because they’re ‘tubes’. Indeed they are - I had to go and look at a pair to check Grin. Tubes or not, I find the longevity very good indeed. We’re onto our second winter with the same 3 pack I got last year. They wash really well- no sagging at all.

McWeedie · 30/01/2018 13:31

The best ones I’ve found were from Sainsbury, charcoal grey cable knit with a proper foot, size up though.

CallarMorvern · 30/01/2018 13:46

No help, but we always buy JL, DD is still wearing her primary school ones in Y8 at high school!
M&S we gave up on as they didn't seem to get any bigger after a certain age.
Asda, the charcoal ones had the crotch made out of a different material, which DD hated, they might be different now though.

Not sure what size you want, but we also buy JL adult 100 denier tights, which are knitted like children's tights, though might not be available in the colours you want.

Hippadippadation · 30/01/2018 16:12

I've always found ASDA really good. Nice and thick and don't lose their shape. Sainsburys also good. We had a pack from Primark once and every single pair ripped on the first wear, so I've avoided them.

WhereAreWeNow · 30/01/2018 16:21

JL are the only ones that seem to fit my DD.

DoubleLottchen · 30/01/2018 16:25

It is DD that is fussy about the tubes, not me Grin. She is also fussy about them being too low slung, which is a big problem with the John Lewis ones.
We would need age 11-12; hadn't thought about looking at adult sizes, but that is a thought...

Best ones I’ve found was matalan. They have heels. Soft and stretchy. We are on the second winter with them. Bought more an dthey are going strong,

Next, M&S, Sainsburys all awful. For various reasons, but matalan stay good.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 31/01/2018 01:17

DD (10) wears 100 denier black opaques from Primark. She's tall (5"5") but skinny, we get adult size medium (was getting small size but she's just had a growth spurt. )
Tights wash well & sometimes I even tumble dry them.

holycityzoo · 31/01/2018 08:38

I always used to get dds in m and s through the primary. She's now Y8 and quite tall so I've bought size 8/10 and she absolutely loves primark fleece lined ones. Not sure what colours they do she has navy.
Might be worth a try. They are really soft and have washed well.

trixymalixy · 31/01/2018 14:04

I have tried them all! I thought john lewis and m&s would be the best, but no.

I always buy primark, but size up 2 sizes to allow for shrinkage.
