Highlighted hair and orange tinge

Can someone explain why my hair takes on an orange tinge after a month or so of highlighting. I explained this to my last colourist and she applied a very deep ash blonde to my hair, and yet still I look at my colour after a month and it looks like a cheap box hair dye. My hair is approx a 7 with 50% grey in there now. I would like to be blonde to cover the obvious grey but not if it ends up looking orange. I really thought my new found colourist knew what she was doing.
How do I achieve a light blonde without the orange?

You need a silver shampoo

dementedpixie · 29/01/2018 18:29

Do you use a purple tone correcting shampoo/ conditioner? That coukd help ward off brassy tones

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 29/01/2018 18:32

What they^ said. I use a purple shampoo once a week and only wash my hair twice a week.

A good purple shampoo like fudge is good.

Yep fudge is what I use.

If your hair is a level 7 with that much grey you could do it yourself with Majirel in a nice ash colour because it will lift enough and it will stay ash in tone. Google it for shades.

It will cost you a tenner at most too.

Thanks, I will try the purple fudge shampoo, didn't realise a shampoo would make such a difference.
After so many attempts of colouring my own hair using colour touch(similar to majorel ) in a neutral or ash base, I decided to seek professional advice. It made no difference i still have that yellow tinge.
Someone suggested because I am a natural level 7 with red undertones I will have always have this problem. Are they right?

No I don’t think they are. You just have to use a creme developer with enough lift, so try 20 vol and then if that doesn’t work 30 and try the cool cover versions of Majirel.

Fanola No Yellow shampoo!

It seems as though they are using a semi as a toner and it's washing off. Purple shampoo will not help orange, purple is for yellow tones. Blue shampoo will help or you could ask them to use a longer lasting toner, such as a demi or perm colour rather than the semi they use now.

If it's orange left behind when you're wanting to be light ash blonde, they are not lifting you light enough.

Op I’m natural ginger and my hair doesn’t come up looking ‘brassy’/‘orangey’ I use the silver shampoo once a week and a colour reconstructor.
