Besides chopping my arms off at the shoulders - how do I improve/get rid of goose bump look from upper arms ?

CaptainUnderpants · 29/04/2007 08:50

Exfoliate ? Is there a magic cream out there that will improve the look ?
Even at my slimmest and fitess I have never had a good shape to my upper arms and now this bloody goose flesh makes it even worse.
I would like to bare my arms to some sun rays this year , any help /advice out there?

You have to exfoliate and moisterise maniacally, and take comfort in the fact that it's genetic, and therefore Not Your Fault.

colditz · 29/04/2007 08:51

the sun often helps it, so bare your arms anyway

essential fatty acids are the answer according to the diet drs.
try eating more oily fish/avocado/nuts etc or take an omega3/6 supplement.
DD and ds had these and since being on eyeq they've gone

sar123 · 29/04/2007 08:57

Find something with salycic acid - a wash or a scrub, or some of those wipes (like clean and clear) are quite handy. Even if you've got sensitive skin on your face they will be ok on your arms. Exfoliate and moisturise and maybe fake tan as everything looks better with a bit of colour!!!

CaptainUnderpants · 29/04/2007 09:00

Thanks.Quick responses !

I moisturise everyday even through winter. I have started to exfoliate everymorning but shall try harder.

Any good moisturises out there that would help do the job ?

I shall try omega supplements .

yet to develope 'bat wings' !

Thanks sar -

What exactly is salycic acid ?

ballbaby · 29/04/2007 09:03

It's aspirin isn't it?

CaptainUnderpants · 29/04/2007 09:07

Had a quick goggle - something that is in products to help combat spots and skin conditions .

Second ggirl's post re essential fatty acids in your diet. Have also read that taking Vitamin C helps with this prob.

sar123 · 29/04/2007 09:22

sorry captain was putting dd down for her nap. Yes it is in lots of skin products to help unblock pores and get rid/prevent spots and pimples - it's a bit strong on my face but i've used stuff like clean and clear and nuetrogena stuff on upper arms as after having dd i got a bit lazy with exfoliating and general grooming, as you do, and also developed bumpy upper arms. Can you get to sauna / steam room at all? might help as well to sweat for a while before exfoliating etc.

CaptainUnderpants · 29/04/2007 09:26

Hi Sar , no chance of getting to a sauna/steam room but can get to Boots and will have a look at some products.

I shall try some products and report back in due course.

Many thanks

it's called keratosis pilaris - they say it's common in children but I see a lot of adult with it (I suffer myself)

the doctor gave me cream that treats rosacea and oilatum the last time but a steroid cream to treat acne worked best - ask your doctor

CaptainUnderpants · 29/04/2007 09:44

Thank you Margo , I shall investigate further .

Why oh why doesn't my skinny SIL have this problem

OP posts:
Pannacotta · 29/04/2007 09:51

Might be worth investigating the diet aspect before using eg steroid creams as these do not really treat the cause and can thin the skin.
I think that taking essential fatty acids alone may well clear them up.
Best of luck (I used to have this problem but take supplements now (including Evening Primrose and Linseed Oils) and they have all gone).
Btw, its nothinh to do with body size...

CaptainUnderpants · 29/04/2007 09:58

i've just been skimming through the internet about it and I have found reccemdation for coconut oil

what do you think ?

OP posts:
Pannacotta · 29/04/2007 09:59

Just had a browse on line and it seems it can be caused by Vit A (not C) deficiency, so using a multi Vitamin supplement might help.

colditz · 29/04/2007 10:12

look here about it

sar123 · 29/04/2007 10:49

captain i just had little pimples, nothing too bad, hardly even visible really but i could feel the bumps where the skin used to be smooth. I don't think i had this condition that's been mentioned so not sure what I recommended would work??? Maybe salycic acid could even irritate? Don't know, anyway hope you get it sorted!!!

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 29/04/2007 13:18

Pannacotta, you're right the steroid cream does thin the skin. I didn't use it for a prolonged time but wanted nice skin for my wedding [vain emoticon]. I also used exfoliation and would split open a vitamin E capsule and spread it over the affected areas.

I don't take enough care of my skin now, I should try the linseed/flax oil and see how it goes.
