My Parlux Has Died; Is There An Alternative?

Three years old, but still at 80 quid I'm disappointed. I use it most days, for around 20 minutes. I'm looking at the Parlux Powerlight but it's £94.95 and I'd rather not spend that much.

I don't have the easiest of hair. When I first bought the Parlux it made quite an impression, and I thought it was amazing. I suspect if I bought something else I'd be disappointed and have buyer's remorse, wishing I'd just sucked up the price tag.

Any alternative suggestions, good for lots of strong-willed, kinky hair?!

TIA

Following this with interest... and wishing the Dyson was 1/4 of the price it is.

I have a Parlux and it's great. I bought a Dyson and returned it after the trial period But it didn't suit my hair. So I thought I was set on `Parlux for life until a few weeks ago when I was caught in a rain shower on a weekend away and needed a quick fix so bought a £20 Remington (I think) dryer from Argos. It was a revelation, better for me than the Dyson and at least as good as the Parlux.

I think the point I'm making is money doesn't seem to be the crucial factor in determining how good a dryer is. But for you I think maybe a Dyson might be the answer - I disliked it as I have very soft hair and I need a dryer that will give me lots of volume and the Dyson made it very smooth and shiny but no volume. For your hair that could be great. If you order it direct from Dyson you can use it for a month and if you don't like it they will collect it from your home and give you a full refund.

Thanks loo. I'm actually one month into a year of self-imposed frugality and am loving the challenge of spending as little as possible, so a Dyson is definitely not on the cards!!

Have you contacted Parlux? Thought they had a long guarantee?

Pupsiecola · 29/01/2018 13:30

I was going to contact them sammy but the guarantee only seems to be for one year. Think I will still drop them a line though.

Worth dropping them a line pupsie. My Parlux is at least 12 years old, used every day, and still going strong.

I wrote to Parlux.co.uk and got this response. Not impressed. And Leeds is at the other end of the country to me. I have been in touch with Amazon and hope they will consider helping:-

Oops.

^We are just one of many retailers of Parlux hairdryers in the UK, they are distributed in the UK by a company called Hair Tools. If it is within warranty you would need to contact the site/shop you bought it from.

If it is out of warranty, there is a service centre at:

Hairdressers Electricals
3 Eden Road
Leeds
LS4 2TT^

Just got the powerlite and find it much better than my first parlux.

CSJ113 · 29/01/2018 17:16

Maybe it wasn’t an authentic Parlux - I don’t trust Amazon now after getting (v convincing) expensive fake headphones from them recently Angry . My parlux has likewise been going for years (I just need to remember to clean the filter occasionally)...

Pupsiecola · 29/01/2018 22:13

Thanks Unicorn. I appreciate you looking up those links. Amazon replied saying it's way out of warranty and I've had fair use out of it so nothing they can do. I've read several articles reviewing hairdryers. I have order the Powerlite from Parlux direct. It's not actually as expensive as many at the higher end and having a decent quality one does so take away from my hair styling woes. I'm actually shocked at how many are over £100!

I'm just annoyed as I'm tracking all spending atm and enjoying seeing the savings; have saved quite a bit this month. Really didn't want to have to make this purchase.
