Talk to me about chin spots :-/

My skin is generally good but if i get spots it's always around my chin.
For the last couple of weeks I keep breaking out in quite sore, noticeable spots (the kind that you really want to pop but if you do, they scar) and nothing seems to help. I haven't changed my skincare products and my usual go to doesn't seem to make a difference.

I use an elemis face wash and toner, and rosehip oil a small a moisturiser. I have a few events coming up and really want to get rid of the breakouts before then - anyone got any advice/miracle cures?

I used to suffer this and tried all sorts of creams, including Roche products. The most effective one eventually was a chlorhexidine based cleanser.

This stuff might help

I would only apply it to your chin area at night time for a few days, as it is very drying. Make sure you use a simple moisturiser afterwards.

I used a similar lotion and my chin spots cleared within days.

Hope this is helpful.

I have the same prob, putting it down to Winter skin, cold outside, heating inside. I am using La Roche Posay Effaclar duo + and it is clearing up the breakouts.

Sorry - I mean apply the lotion, then wash it off with warm water afterwards!!

As I understand it spots on your chin and jaw line are hormonal. So it probably won’t matter what you put on your face as it won’t help. Could be wrong though! Have you changed birth control or anything like that?

I have 3 huge chin spots this weekend. I've started drinking again after a break of a few weeks, so thinking there could be a link.
My dd's Acnecide cream seems to be shrinking them.

Agree, spots in this area tend to be hormonal. I suffer less if I'm eating really healthily and drinking lots of water. Something like evening primrose oil to balance hormones may help?

whyhastherumgone · 28/01/2018 20:54

Thanks everyone.
It has been after a week of being away, so drinking more than usual.
I usually use La Roche Posay products too but doesn't seem to work this time! Haven't changed birth control but my hormones have been pretty crazy lately after a termination for medical reasons in November, so perhaps that's also a factor :(
So frustrating!! I will try the lotion recommended, thank you

Only thing that ever made any difference to mine was finding the right birth control pill. That not only helped but was miraculous - went years and years without a single spot after having awful huge lumpy spots on my chin, jaw and bridge of my nose.

Roomba · 28/01/2018 20:59

So sorry - awful cross post. Sorry you had to go through that heartbreaking experience Flowers. My suggestion was probably the worst thing I could have said!

Hi OP,

I had similar trouble-unpoppable chin spots. I saw my GP in the end as nothing would shift them. She prescribed Duac which has sorted them.

whyhastherumgone · 28/01/2018 21:04

ah roomba no worries, I'm actually doing okay :) I wouldn't have mentioned it as I know it can be a bit awkward for people in a general discussion about something else, but as hormones were mentioned it made me think!
And actually, am probably going to go back on birth control for a bit so it's not a bad suggestion at all.

Thanks for the tip Inca, I will keep an eye on it and if I can't get rid, go see the doctor. I've not experienced these kind of spots before, even though I have had spots in this 'problem' area...

I had this, doctor diagnosed folliculitis and gave me a topical antibiotic, I haven't had any since, about 20 years

userxx · 28/01/2018 23:22

I used to suffer with these, bloody painful. Apart from the hardcore stuff the doctor prescribed and antibiotics, origins spot remover was really good. It took the redness away, soothed the skin and the spots were half the size by the next day.
