Is it possible to sell dresses in bulk? If so, how?

To say my dp is a hoarder is the understatement of the century. She is also addicted to buying dresses and has - I can't estimate how many, but think three double wardrobe rails and literally covering the floor of her bedroom, plus piles in corners. Must be in the hundreds. Many of them have never been worn, because there aren't enough days in the year.

I won't go into how horrendous it is to live with this habit - and how expensive - but the good news is that she has decided she needs to get rid of at least some, and given how much she has spent on buying them it would be nice to get a little bit back. She could ebay them but she's not IT-competent and I worry that it will take so long to sell them individually that she will lose momentum. Ideally, she would sell them in bulk, accepting this will be for a fraction of what she paid for them.

I have googled, but all I can find is places that will buy designer clothes off you. These are not designer - they're good quality high street e.g. Hobbs, Planet, Phase 8. Does anybody know a way of shifting them, other than give them to charity? (Which I would do, like a shot, if it was up to me.)

Many thanks.

I would google and see if anyone does e bay for you nearby
I do this for friends and we split the profit
There are agencies in my area eg ‘we bay for you’
Alternatively sell via small ads - I buy at low cost then eBay stuff so would be interested if you were nearer - there is bound to be someone near you

Put the ones on the floor into storage boxes. Store them. Leave out 100 (3 months’ worth of one per day with generous leeway for choice!)

Store the rest. As she wears them, get her to assess how she felt in that particular dress - is it a keeper, a maybe or did it never get chosen in the 3 months.

Sell in bundles of 5-10 as suggested every time there are 5 or do in a discarded pile.

Methodical, not too drastic, floor is clear but no big frightening chuck-out just a gradual reduction?

I would definitely use an eBay selling service in your position.
Selling on eBay is a pain in the arse and I can only cope with doing a couple of items at a time.
Or if she could bear it I'd consider a bootsale. You'll get very little though. I'd do them all the same price if they're similar and have it as 3 for the price of 2 or something to help shift them.

@Ketzele
Put them on here as lots of us size 12's are interested. There's a selling section ( link below) and then tell us. Grin

Best return will be individual sales on eBay ...

LoveVelo · 28/01/2018 10:28

Agree best return is individual listings - this is from experience of having bought far more clothing than I've sold successfully listed a fair few bits on ebay, but I also think the trading assistants are an option worth looking at:

I'm watching with interest as in a similar position myself! (As in I'm the perpetrator with a lot off things that need to go!)

GlubGlubGlub · 28/01/2018 19:14

I’ve sold lots of stuff on TWicely. They only take unworn or very Good Condition stuff and they don’t pay as much as you would get on eBay but it’s hassle free.

BikeRunSki · 28/01/2018 19:52

Are any of the unworn dresses Boden? If they still have their tags, they have a 12 month return period.

With the brands you describe and when new and photographed you'd get min £15 buy it now on eBay, plus buyer pays post. I'd be tempted to pay a student / a inly member for a day with an eye for fashion and get them listed. I say that as someone who hates eBay but in 2 hours today's have sold several things at £20...

NewBallsPlease00 · 29/01/2018 01:20

Actually if there are seriously that many I'd do a local sale- village hall, rails (hire them, or hall may have them), all hung £10 item, 200 / 2k...
