I want a realistic looking spray tan, done in a tanning booth, but not an Orange Donald looking one. (Edited by MNHQ)

.....so what are your experiences with tanning booths?

I want a fake tan, but so scared of looking like Donald Trump.
As near as possible to a natural medium tan as I can.

What do I need to look for credentials wise to ensure I don’t book somewhere with a less than favourable orange looking spray tan?
I’ve never had a spray tan before....thanks for your advice 💐💐

The booths are very new here, I did meet one girl who'd had one & it looked good.

It's too high a concentration of dha that makes you orange. If you start off with a 6% or light and work up through them if it's not dark enough.

Do all shaving, exfoliation etc 24hrs before & avoid razors with moisturising strips.

You'll need to wet wipe off any antiperspirant before you go in & make sure you've left your ears out of the hairnet & pushed it slightly up above your hairline. White ears & a white forehead isn't a good look.

Thanks @Fluffycloudland77
Where are you from?
I’m from the U.K., and although the tanning booths have been here a while, I’ve never thought of using one until now.
I appreciate the advice regarding the ears/forehead part 😂😂

Deepest Midlands. Some Salons round here still offer st Tropez lotion.

Ah, right, thought you were going to say you were from outside of the U.K.
I’ll have a toot round my end (NW, near Manchester) and get back to you if it’s still St Tropez lotion here 😁.
Thanks for the advice again.
I have visions of Donald Trump with white ears and forehead...

Do you mean like an automated one like a Mystic Tan booth? www.mystictan.co.uk/

I used to use one of these when I lived in another town. I will say this, it was hands DOWN the BEST spray tans I ever ever had or have ever had since, when I used it. I've had personal spray tans in a pop up tent and still come out with blotchy ankles.

The next best thing was, overall, Fake Bake Original done at home.

If the Mystic Tan style is what you mean, @ me and I'll tell you the technique that was used because I had really good tips and instructions from the lady who owned the salon so as to not end up with a Ross (Friends) look!

I second Mystic Tan - if you go for the lightest colour they look great and so natural. In London a couple of Tanning Shops have them as well as Heidi Klein in Westbourne Grove W11. The effect is much more natural than a tan done by a beautician in a pop-up tent a fades fairly evenly.
