Are any t-shirts not bloody see through??

I'm about to go to the far East and worried about being hot and sweaty, need a few t-shirts or even better cotton sleeveless tops in light colours.

Aside from the problem of trying to find summery clothes in Jan, everything I do find is always see-through! Usually I get round this with a large stock of nude colour vests to go underneath but I don't think adding another layer is going to be comfortable in a hot humid country.

Please tell me that someone makes tops that actually fulfill the purpose of, you know, covering up your bra!

men don't have to put up with this shit

Uniqlo do good, thick t shirts.

Multicolouredfish · 26/01/2018 14:37

Try berghaus and other outdoor sports makes. They do casual t-shirts as well as sports tops and are not see through. Go outdoors/Cotswold etc as well as any local independent outdoor shops should stock a range.

Oldraver · 26/01/2018 14:45

It's annoying isnt it ? I've got some t-shirts form TU and Matalaan that have seen better days but I dont want to throw them as they are proper t-shirts.

It all seems to of gone downhill with this cheap see through not cotton fabric the last few years.

I second looking in outdoor shops. I was in Cotswold yesterday and they had t-shirts in as new stock

Thanks all, great advice. I would not have thought of looking in outdoor shops and we have a couple of good discount ones nearby that I'll check out.

swimming the uniqlo vests online look great. Do they size normally do you know or do you have to go up/down a size?

I’m a 12 and take a M in their t-shirts. I am tall
And would say they are adequate but not over generous in length. Their women's T-shirts are fitted, but the men’s are also good and are looser. I would go s or m in the men’s depending on the fit you want.

Sunshineandgin · 26/01/2018 16:23

COS t-shirts are lovely, thick and good quality.

If you’re going somewhere humid you might be more comfortable in a loose crisp cotton top/blouse type thing rather than tight jersey t-shirt.

Picklepickle123 · 26/01/2018 16:26

I like gap t-shirts, especially from the men's section. Although I would second the PP who recommend cotton tops. If you're struggling to find something summery - the outlet stores are particularly good at this because they will have all of last season's pieces. I went away last month and picked up some a cotton shirt and a linen top from fat face.

christmastreewithhairyfairy · 26/01/2018 16:55

Thanks - I was wondering about a soft/floaty type shirt, again if I can find one that isn't transparent. I can't wear crisp cotton because I somehow always look crumpled straight away and never iron if I can help it
I had assumed that even the discount places would be out of summer clothes by now but I will definitely have a look.

T shirt wise I was thinking probably sleeveless rather than short sleeved, to avoid hot sweaty pits. Uniqlo looked good for that, especially the ones that claim to keep you cool. I am short so length not an issue!

Abercrombie, I have three if theirs and they are thick and not see through.
Big logos on the front usually though.

SandLand · 26/01/2018 17:14

I've not been into a shop in the UK for 6 months, but M&S basics teeshirts, and uniqlo are the basis of my wardrobe.
Be careful with the uniqlo airtech stuff. Ive got a lovely thick one, so ordered some more on that basis, and they are as transparent as teeshirts come. Totally useless..
Consider sleeves, as my shoulders burn really quickly if I don't cover them up.
Happy shopping!

TollgateDebs · 26/01/2018 17:43

I buy my basic t-shirts from Lands End, online. Good colours, styles and quality.

christmastreewithhairyfairy · 27/01/2018 09:52

Thanks. Lands End and cos are a bit more than I want to pay. High hopes for uniqlo but that is worrying that some end up see through anyway! How do designers get away with it, I don't understand.
Going to give Gap outlet a go and if not try ordering from uniqlo (couldn't find any summer stuff in their store)

I like M and S basics too. The Inés sound 6quid. Their more expensive onés vary.

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/01/2018 10:44

Boden do a double layer fronted sleeveless t shirt.

lynmilne65 · 27/01/2018 10:53

Mens small

pixelchick10 · 27/01/2018 12:30

If you’re going to Asia you might not want t-shirts too thick - depends which part I suppose but I only take light clothes to S Vietnam where we go every year

Sitranced · 27/01/2018 16:52

Men's t-shirts. If sizing down doesn't work then cut out the neckline or roll up the sleeves. Loads of instructions or hacks if you like on Pinterest. Seriously, most men's basic clothing is better than women's.

christmastreewithhairyfairy · 28/01/2018 10:14

Thanks - I have a couple of men's Ts in small though I don't get on with the shape - I'm quite booby so they are too straight up and down for me. Agree that the fabric is better, so unfair! It seems like the assumption is that men buy clothes to last, women are fickle so only buy for a season Hmm

pixel I do want light clothes, just not to have my bra on show!!
