No idea of buffers, serums, retinoids, hydrowhatsit acids...am I the only one?
I have a panicky fear that everyone around me will have the face of a 19 year old and I will be the wrinkly prune who has missed out.

I'll admit to knowing absolutely nothing about this stuff too. I'm 47 and am sure I should be doing something more than just straight forward cleansing & moisturising.

I watched Laura Fantacci talking about her skincare favourites yesterday. She mentioned using Vitamin C in the morning and retinol in the evening. I have no idea why or how much of these things are required for glowing skin.

I too am clueless Confused Inspired by that BBC programme a few weeks ago and other much more knowledgeable MNers I impulse bought some Una Brennan Retinol serum and a Bees Venom (!) night cream by another brand. I am now too chicken to use either, DH remarked when he saw the night cream "why the F would you put that near your face!".
Therefore lurking with interest, thanks for starting thread OP,

Should add that both were from TK Maxx about £7 each so if they gather dust and never get used I can cope!

Most of us have dehydrated skin, whether it's oily or not. Hyaluronic Acid is a hydrator (not an Acid) which helps trap moisture. There are many moisturisers on the market which now include Hyaluronic or you can just add it as a step on clean, damp skin before any other serums/moisturisers/oils.

Serums -any around like Clarins. Buffet from the Ordinary is a cheap but good all round anti-ageing serum. 2-3 drops patted on face once or twice a day. Sinks in quickly. There are upgrades in the Deciem (parent company) brand; Hylamide SubQ or expensive NIOD which has something called CAIS.

Victoria Health is a good website to look at the Ordinary- they have good descriptions.

Retinol/Retinoid are great for anti ageing but you have to be careful to start gently, (one in pic is a good "starter", moisturise well and use a daily sunscreen. (I don't use them, too much angst for my sensitive skin).

One of the best things you could try is ditch makeup wipes, strong foaming or stripping cleansers and try double cleansing -- oils based balm first to remove makeup, followed by a gentle non foaming cleanser (say La Roche Posay Toleriane or Avène Extremely Gentle Cleanser).

That's good info Bagel, thanks. I didn't realise Hyaluronic (sp?!) was s hydrator. Going to look at the Ordinary now 😊
