Ponds Cold Cream

Hi,
Just wondered if anyone has experience of using Ponds Cold Cream. Thinking of giving it a go, mainly because I've been watching that series about Zelda Fitzgerald on Amazon and fancy flouncing around in a whispy negligee, dumping myself at a beautiful dressing table, and rubbing cream into my face like a 1920s film siren (wannabe).
Also, I think it's one of those products where people say it's all their 98-year-old-granny-wi'-ne're-a-wrinkle has ever used.
About to embark on roaccutane which will dry my skin, so thinking something nourishing might be good.
Ags

I seem to remember Kylie causing a run on Pond's Cold Cream a few years bacl when she claimed that's what she thanked her (botoxed) complexion for.

Personally I'm not a fan of wipe off cleansers, always feel they just smear the dirt around my face. I prefer an oil cleanser and some hot water. Makes me face feel clean without drying my skin out.

But give the cold cream a shot, it costs next to nothing. And look into facial oils to counteract the drying effect of the roaccutane. I like to massage some in when I'm watching tv in the evening.

Do you know what a cold cream is?

agapanthus1979 · 24/01/2018 20:17

Thanks, Plumes. I like the oil idea.
Craftygin, yep. Is that a trick question?

I used to use it years ago. It’s a bit perfumed for me.

I hear you on the roaccutane though - I love Cerave stuff (can buy it on amazon). It’s improved my skin, and is very mild.

I alternate ponds cold cream with a oil cleanser. Its working for me at the minute. It's great on a cotton bud for cleaning up eyeliner too.

CraftyGin · 24/01/2018 20:24

What is cold cream?

agapanthus1979 · 24/01/2018 20:26

I've seen cerave. Do you use the cleanser and moisturiser?
Thanks youwereright.

Cold cream is a er, cream that comes from a pot. You rub it on your face, then wipe it off with a flannel.

It's a fancy way of saying its a cleanser.

agapanthus1979 · 24/01/2018 20:27

Craftygin, it is sort of what it says on the tin. Quite an old fashioned, well traditional, thick cleansing cream. Not sure how well my skin would tolerate it though.

So you don’t know how it is different from a “hot cream”?

Callamia · 24/01/2018 20:32

Craftygin, enough with the teasing and tell us.

Plumes · 24/01/2018 20:32

Why are you asking stupid questions?

Callamia · 24/01/2018 20:33

Yes, I use the face wash, serum and moisturiser. I was amazed at how good the wash was.

FartsMeanHearts · 24/01/2018 20:33

Get on with it Crafty Hmm

CraftyGin · 24/01/2018 20:34

They are not stupid questions. Just straightforward ones - and don’t refer to Wikipedia. That article is one of the few that I have found that is totally bollocks.

Plumes · 24/01/2018 20:36

Get back to your gin.

agapanthus1979 · 24/01/2018 20:41

Think I might get a gin myself.
Thanks everyone. Definitely going to try cerave.
Gin, Gin, ginity gin.

I tried Pond's cold cream recently. I loved the smell of it but otherwise didn't get on with it. I think I used it wrongly. I rubbed it all over my face and then wiped it off with a cloth soaked in hot water. I found it really hard to remove and ended up feeling as if there was a greasy film all over my face. I think it gave me spots as well.

goose1964 · 24/01/2018 21:34

When I've had it I've always used it as a moisturiser, whoops

ToftheB · 24/01/2018 21:41

Oh. I tried to use it as a moisturiser too... I thought it was rubbish. Turns out I was just being dim.

missyB1 · 24/01/2018 21:46

My mum used to cover my sister in it head to toe for her eczema. It is very greasy.

I like ponds face cream for dry skin, not greasy but feels nice and smells lovely.

dudsville · 24/01/2018 21:52

I used it once. It leaves residue. I frequently try cheaper balms but always end up with the more expensive balms that leaves skin clean feeling.

Battleax · 24/01/2018 21:57

I like it in winter. Still oil cleanse twice a week but the PCC has the benefit of not clogging pores. It's somehow very nourishing and rich while not being craggy. I like the new pot too. Boots' version also used to be good (and very vintage looking) but I think it's discontinued now. And it smells very very clean.

Battleax · 24/01/2018 21:58

Claggy^

mojito55 · 24/01/2018 22:04

I agree with PP that cold cream is heavily scented. If you're going on roaccutane, the perfume may irritate your skin. I'd suggest a cleaning oil, and a thick moisturiser like E45 - it's not perfumed and very hydrating, just what you need.
