Eye shadow?

I'm in my mid thirties. I have pale skin. Whenever I try and wear eye shadow these days I just look silly. What do other people use? What colour? Or should I just not use it? Thanks

Are you sure you look silly? Maybe you’re not used to wearing it. What are you currently using?

I’d go to a counter and ask for a very natural day look. Depending on your budget, Bobbi Brown would be where I would go.

Rosesandpears · 20/01/2018 13:22

Thanks I'll go to a counter and get some advice.

I've never spent much money on it, and hardly ever wear it, but want to start looking more groomed.

I'm pale too and for a basic eyeshadow I wear Mac paint pot in painterly.

Benefit Big Beautiful Eyes is a good starting point. It has a little instruction leaflet and you build the colour up so there is a small range of shades. You can always opt out of the darker one if you feel it's too much for your skin tone.

Have a look at the urban decay naked pallets

I have pale skin, fair hair and pinks and browns look good, also brown mascara. I have the urban decay naked 3 and al lottie in rose gold colours from superdrug (cheaper and just as nice).

urban decay

lottie

I love Urban Decay and got this for Christmas

Naked Palet

I love it. You can play about with the different shades of brown and beige

There will be a way of doing it that makes it "click" for you if you are interested enough to play around a bit.

I thought I looked awful in eyeshadow, until I realised that I just can't do the casual "single mid-tone colour over entire lid" thing I was trying to do (emulating a Sali Hughes video; it was great on her). On me it is really wrong and makes me look scary.

But if I put a lighter shade on the inner corner of my lid, with anything medium/dark strictly kept away from that area, it's actually great. Whole new world has opened.

Thanks everyone

Another one seconding Urbay Decay Naked pallettes. No.7 do quite a lot of nice, neutral-ish, 'day look' make-up that is affordable and easy to apply and the staff are good at matching colours to you and generally friendly and helpful.

Have a look at Lisa Eldridge videos on YouTube, she has great makeup advice.

I'm mid thirties & pale. Oranges look best on me with rusty browns. Look up the morphe orange palette.

OverTheParapet · 21/01/2018 15:45

It's the 35O2 palette

verite · 21/01/2018 15:48

I have naked 2 and it covers everything from day m, evening and holidays. It’s all I need. Just a shame it’s so big when I go away.

LollipopViolet · 21/01/2018 17:54

I've got Naked 1, and absolutely love it. I also have a couple of sparkly eyeshadow palettes of theirs for more bold looks. I love eyeshadow... Blush

Rosesandpears · 22/01/2018 13:29

Really appreciate all this thank you

Benefit Big Beautiful Eyes is a good starting point.

I love that too, but if you like that sort of pinky-brown neutral range and don't want to pay a lot of money, Collection (formerly Collection 2000)'s Rose Nude palette is quite similar and costs about £5.

Whatever palette I've currently got, my day-to-day look usually involves a soft pink and a taupeish colour. I'm quite pale too, but on the "warm" side.
