Jumpers that last without pilling

I would happily buy my entire wardrobe from White Stuff (very original!) but I am sick of jumpers pilling and bobbling almost immediately. Seasalt can be problematic too, but does anyone make wool jumpers, in nice colours, that keep on looking good?

I think with wool and cashmere it's more about the type of knit than the brand. In general (with a few exceptions) I've found tighter, denser knits bobble less.

Merino doesn't pill. Uniqlo do some good basic ones

I have looked at Uniqlo, but I find the colours a bit limited. One of their grey v necks would make me look like a superannuated school child.

The J Crew merino jumpers are good - I've got one of the Tippi style (which is a fairly fine knit) and it's been fine. They do them in loads of colours.

Uniqlo merino is excellent quality and they do a good range of colours although I prefer monochrome tones.

H&M merino wool are good - I buy the men's polo necks. I've also had good jumpers from Gap in the past - currently wearing a Gap cashmere cowl neck that is older than my daughter. She's 10.

Uni qlo have a huge range of colours and are great quality. I also have several Tippi sweaters from J Crew which still look good

My COS merino jumpers are all fantastic quality, can‘t praise them highly enough. Not much choice in terms of colours though.

Kettlewell do good quality merino jumpers in a wide range of colours. I've had a couple for 3 years or so and they haven't pilled although I do handwash them very carefully.

Ididnthearanything · 18/01/2018 12:29

Merino doesn't pil, but I think almost all other wools pill. Comes with the material. I agree tho, some less than others. Depending on the tightness of knit, the fibre twist etc. You'd hope the more expensive ones pill less - that they'd use longer fibres, tighter twist and knit - but I've had expensive ones pill as much as cheap. so it's hit and miss.
In fairness to wools, I think the pilling lessens with age. I've invested in one of those de-pilling machines and they're great. Make an unwearable jumper wearable again.

J Crew tippi - mine are all nearly 3 years old now. No piling at all
