I have never had one before and am going tomorrow. I dont want long nails. My nails are very soft, bendy and prone to tearing. So, maybe short 'false' nails...but i dont want false nails, if they are going to start falling off. And there are a variety of false nails arent there?? Do i NEED false nails?

I'm the same as you in terms of what my nails are like. Never really bothered with them because as far as I was concerned they weren't ever going to be up to much Grin Then met DSIL who is a beautician...

I am a huge fan of shellac/gel nails. I have to have plenty of time off them because they do weaken your nails if you wear them a lot over time, but I get at least 2 weeks out of mine when regular nail varnish flakes after 2 minutes.

If you want a little extra length you can get 'extensions' which I think they call infills - I've had them occasionally and I feel super fancy when I do Grin

I'm less of a fan of full acrylics, they always flake on me.

You could have a gel manicure? Not false nails but a tougher type of varnish that dries immediately under a UV light and lasts longer than a normal varnish. Also makes your nails feel harder/thicker. Although in the long run some people find it weakens their nails (important to get them to soak it off rather than use the electric file if you want to take it off or change colour!).

Sorry meant to explain - extensions are like popping top up length fake ones on. So not from the nail bed but further up so your regular nails look longer.

Ooo, thanks. Sounds like gel nails is what i need. I am really excited Blush

I have very bendy short nails. Started getting gels and I love them. Looks pretty and has helped my nails to grow longer and stronger.

Dogsfoxes · 16/01/2018 19:17

How often do you get gel nails done? Do you have to go to a shop to get the gel removed? Or does it flake off? Take it off with nail varnish remover??

What colour is good? There is too much CHOICE. I am so rubbish at choosing wall paint. I cant imagine nail colour is easier

Hi op my nails are just like yours and gel/shellac works wonders and looks fab. Here's an example of a natural look I had done recently:

You need to soak in acetone to remove gel polish. It can be picked off but it ruins your nails.

eyeswideshit · 16/01/2018 19:28

I go every three weeks. First time a soak off then fresh colour. Then the following two times a rebalance. So they buff the colour down and recoat, either in the same colour or in a darker one.
