PeonyTruffle · 16/01/2018 15:06

My new lamp and some blue sky polishes turned up today thank you eBay So far really pleased but would like some extra colours

Can anyone recommend any decent brands to use with my lamp at home? Smile

Is it a blue sky lamp?

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 16/01/2018 16:49

I've got some Lavender violets ones from eBay, gorgeous colours but only last a few days ... cheap as chips though 👍🏻

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 16/01/2018 16:50

Why fluffy are they not all the same?

RadioDorothy · 16/01/2018 16:52

You can order more Blue Sky polishes from Bbeautylounge on eBay - he is a main stockist. And join the FB group too, just search for Blue Sky - you don't need to be a nail tech!

RadioDorothy · 16/01/2018 16:55

Oh and not all lamps are exactly the same, but any combined uv/led lamp from 9 watt upwards should be fine. Unless you're using builder gels, that seems to need 36 - 48 watts upwards - so I'm told!

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/01/2018 17:25

No, each polish needs the matching lamp to cure. They dry at 70% or so cured, but they are only non-allergenic at 100% cure. Uv is a fairly narrow range but it's the parts of it the polish needs to activate the photo-initiators that matter plus the angle of the bulb & the distance from the bulb to the nail.

Non-cured acrylic is highly allergenic & there has been a huge increase in acrylic allergies since at home nail lamps became popular.

None of you will be worried about this.

Until you need dental repairs or a hip/knee/shoulder replacement & find you can't have one because you're allergic to the acrylic used to cement the joint.

There's a huge amount of mis-information about nails, uv lamps plus the markets flooded with fake products. There's colours on Amazon & eBay I know for a fact got discontinued 5 years ago.

MrsMacNally · 16/01/2018 17:53

Blimey Fluffy - that's a worry. Are you ok at home if you stick to major brands sold by major high street retailers d'you think? M&S have had 70% of Red Carpet.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 16/01/2018 17:58

I have a mylee uv lamp and ordered bluesky polishes from amazon. Reviews seem to rate the quality of them. I have been wearing their sparkly white shade for a couple of weeks now - even decorating and getting covered in paint didn't wreck it. I am impressed.

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 16/01/2018 18:27

Gosh fluffy that's scary, I have a boots LED one - it doesn't mention only using boots polish.

Does gel polish have the same issues with allergens as acrylic?

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/01/2018 18:40

Everything in nail coatings is acrylic but in different forms, so gel, shellac, hard gel, acrylic extensions, nail polish are all acrylic.

You need to stick to authorised stockists. Last year two different products at boots got pulled for having pro only ingredients.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 16/01/2018 19:15

I didn't know that! I bought that a lamp from amazon and had lots of random brands of polish bought from Ebay and amazon. My hands started t burn after I did my nails, I would scratch them red raw and there eventually blistered every time I did them. I decided to chuck the kit away when my nails began to lift of the nail beds and I couldn't type at work because my fingers were so sore.

If I buy a matching lamp and polish will it be better do you think?

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/01/2018 19:20

No, you have an allergy by the sounds of it. No reputable salon will touch you either.

There's a nail salon near me who I suspect is using mma nails extensions, basically bone cement, & some of her pictures show clear signs of allergy 🙄. Her clients call her the nail queen. Probably because she does very long extensions that don't break.

If she gets one clued up client sue her she's fucked.

HarperFrannie · 16/01/2018 19:24

Is there any danger of skin cancer from the light emitted from these lamps? Like sunbeds I mean?

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 16/01/2018 19:29

I have had my nails done since then and not had any issues but I diddnt tell them about the issues I had previously which I realise I should have done. I just assumed I was doing something wrong and that's why I was so sore.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/01/2018 19:30

No, it's too weak. It's like sitting near a window on a sunny day but focused on a nail.

Also hands are very uv resistant, tops of ears, noses & cheekbone areas collect more skin cancers but how many people religiously apply sun block to their ears every day?.

It's an excellent excuse to sell hand protectors ie gloves with the fingers cut out to "prevent uv damage" though.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/01/2018 19:33

They should have asked you Windsor & they broke the terms of their insurance by not doing so. Very odd you didn't react.

Mind you, if you'd told them & been refused service we'd never have known that you don't react.

Maybe the skill of the tech applying it meant none went on the skin so your body didn't notice it.

I wouldn't push it though, I have food allergies & the more you're exposed to an allergen the worse the reaction gets.

HarperFrannie · 16/01/2018 21:16

Thanks Fluffy. Very interesting.
