Foundation that doesn't sit in pores or lines

SwinginFromTheChandelier · 16/01/2018 09:24

I'm approaching my big 4-0 and have still to find my holy grail in foundation.

My skin has extremely dry patches around the creases of my nose. I have very large open pores on my chin, cheeks and nose. I have redness around my chin and nose. I have quite deep 11s.

Whatever foundation I try it just sits in my lines and my pores make my face dotty. I have tried numerous primers. Tried applying with sponge, beauty blender, brush (all tried damp & dry) and fingers. Nothing works Sad

Some of the brands I've tried are-

Body shop mineral powder
Body shop B.B. cream
Chanel vitalumiere aqua
EL Doublewear- horrendous mistake
No.7. stay perfect
No.7. Airbrush
No.7 perfect and protect
BareMinerals powder
Max factor miracle touch.

Any suggestions?

I also use a nyx matt foundation and it's Brill I've recently switched from lancome and again it's Brill and saves me a fortune

I forgot (again) that Garnier Micellar Water wrecks my skin and I used it a couple of times over Christmas.

I’ve had big, dry flaky patches and the only way I can heal it is with LRP Cicaplast Baume.
It’s so good when you have sore, dry skin.

FuckyDucky · 17/01/2018 20:23

Sorry not sorting your make up issue but if you can soothe your skin a bit then hopefully your foundation will be less of an issue.

travailtotravel · 17/01/2018 22:46

I have this issue with pores. I primevwith clinique or max factor. But in the two weeks I've been doing vegan January I've done to realise my skin has improved through lack of dairy. It's likes miracle!

Lonesurvivor · 17/01/2018 22:53

Try and sort out your skin that'll make a huge difference.
What cleanser and moisturiser are you currently using, do you use serum, what about exfoliation?

Nearlythere35 · 17/01/2018 22:57

I had the same issue with wrinkles and hated the EL double wear. I'm now using Diorskin Forever foundation plus clarins concealer and this seems like a good combo. I agree that sorting out the dry skin should help.

I use a Lancôme primer (it's called 'pro' something) that is excellent. I've found others to be too drying or too wet. I've used it under Estée Lauder, benefit and Rimmel foundations and found each much easier to apply because of it.

I also have dry patches of skin (top of cheeks, between brows and around nose) which I use an oily serum on every morning after I wash my face. I then moisturise normally on the rest of my face. Then just before make up I'll use a moisturising spray (Clinique) all over. Then primer and then less than a minute after primer (don't run it in, just put it on quickly) I apply foundation. If I left it longer I don't think I'd feel the benefit of it.

I love Armani Luminous Silk

Gwendolenfairfaxx · 18/01/2018 04:38

I use L’Oréal BB cream as a ‘primer’ - it fills in and mattifies
Then EL Doublewear is my no1 favourite makeup product

Face doesn’t budge all day Smile

huha · 18/01/2018 04:47

Smashbox primer
NARS foundation

I only use these two things!

Only1scoop · 18/01/2018 04:52

Clinique pep start moisturiser

AgathaMystery · 19/01/2018 22:47

I second pep start. It's ace

Qvc allow you to return products if you don't like them, so you could buy from there. www.qvcuk.com/beauty/make-up/primers/_/N-lfm5Z1z13yar/c.html

I'm a trained make up artist. You don't need moisturiser and primer. It's one or other.

If you want your foundation to look matte and minimise pores use Avene Cleanance K before you put on your make up, it works like a primer with added benefits.

Also a MUA here. The problem isn’t the foundation so much as the skin it’s sitting on. Try a liquid exfoliator like Alpha H followed by a facial oil. Flakiness needs to be zapped as it’s inevitable that foundation will highlight it otherwise. I wouldn’t bother with primer (and it sounds like your skin is pretty dry anyway) but you could always use something like a MAC paintpot sparingly on areas where your pores are particularly open (this works really well on and around the nose).

Following!!

mamamalt · 20/01/2018 08:39

@BigusBumus could you put the name on here? That link went skewwy as I’m in Ireland!

ElfrideSwancourt · 20/01/2018 09:08

Have you tried no 7 Instant Radiance foundation? It's only available in bigger Boots but I find it much better than Stay Perfect. I use NYX primer spray underneath and it doesn't budge from I put it on at 6am until bedtime.
I order it online and get it delivered for free to our smaller local Boots now.

Opaldaisies · 20/01/2018 09:13

Jack - but surely moisturiser and primer do two different jobs? Confused

Is there a reason why they can't be used together? The moisturiser to add moisture and SPF, let it sink in, then the primer to provide a better surface for foundation to adhere to? My face feels tight without moisturising, but I also want a primer to help foundation stay on longer.

Nicpem1982 · 20/01/2018 12:57

Opal that was my thoughts exactly

bananagrabber · 20/01/2018 13:01

Alpha h liquid gold twice a week
Smashbox primer
YSL touche eclat foundation
The foundation is likely going to be trial and error but decent makeup counters will match you and give you samples. I tried about 10. I also liked Diorskin Forever.

bananagrabber · 20/01/2018 13:03

Also, try an oil cleanser like DHC rather than a foaming one (if that's what you use). Changed my skin!

BigusBumus · 20/01/2018 14:09

@mamamalt Its called DIEGO DALLA PALMA Compact Powder Foundation

Haffiana · 20/01/2018 14:25

Hmm. Thing that sorts out my skin is to exfoliate thoroughly with a hot cloth cleanser - any of them, it is the cloth exfoliation that does it, not the product - and then a good moisturiser. This is the only thing that smooths my skin and stops the mini craters filled with foundation look.

My go-to moisturiser for under foundation is Garnier Moisture Bomb.

I use Mac face and body foundation which is dewy. Dewy foundation also helps!

ABuckToothedGirlinLuxembourg · 20/01/2018 16:04

You need a serum foundation by the sounds of it. Try the Bobbi brown one, it’s very good.
