Interview Outfit - advice needed

I am being interviewed for a civil service type job, in the environmental field. Is a suit with matching jacket and trousers, blouse, and high heels, too 'officey"? The alternative is some wide leg grey sort of large check 'slouch' trousers and a mustard jumper. I usually wear this with a leather jacket which I realise is a no. I have a black suit jacket, would that work? With heeled black boots? I am overthinking? I do think that you project a lot by what you wear, and that getting this right is important.

I would go for the suit Smile imo it can never hurt to be over dressed for things like an interview!

Thank you furry elephant! I can't believe I have been agonising over this for a week..do you know, part of me thinks that maybe that's because neither outfit is 100 per cent right, maybe I need to go shopping. I'm off to scan the next catalogue.

I would also with the suit! Best of luck x

Always a good excuse for shopping! What I wore to an interview that has a loose smart casual dress code was smart trousers that have that sort of small checked pattern, a plain black sleeveless collared blouse and a smart fitted cardigan Smilewith some smart brogues or loafers it looked smart and that I’d made an effort. I’m not a suit person and wouldn’t have been comfortable so tried to improvise!

I would go for the suit; when it comes to interviews I don’t think it ever hurts to be over smart. I have a black “interview” dress from oasis which I always wear as it saves worries about what pieces of clothing work together

Thanks for reassurance that suits are still considered the right thing for interviews. Breaking it down - my old wardrobe has lots of lovely VERY smart Hobbs work dresses, but a) thats a bit OTT for this type role and B), its really all b isn't it, I've gained too much weight. My navy interview suit (trousers and matching jacket) goes with a yellow print blouse and nude heels, which I feel are too "spring" for mid winter...so was thinking a lightweight yellow knit might be better, if I can find one in time? I'm so OCD though I just can't bear to wear black boots with a navy suit, I feel nude court heel is right. Can I get away with that in winter?

I’m Civil Service and wore and wear a Hobbs dress, cardigan and flat pumps for interviews.

I don’t think I’ve worn a suit for an interview for a decade - and that includes when I worked in the City!

When I interview candidates I really don’t care what they wear as long as it’s not scruffy or jeans and trainers!
