Help buying nursing clothes on line

Where does everyone else buy their nursing clothes from? I've had a look on ASOS but not been blown away by the selection in my size (16) unless I want to spend £30+ for one top. I've not got a huge budget so I can't really afford to spend much but I'll need some nursing tops for when my baby is born in a few weeks.

Can anyone recommend a good place to shop online where it won't break the bank??

I shop at Dorothy Perkins, Asos and have some of the Katie piper dresses off want that trend. Other places worth a look could be H & m (I have some of their nursing pjs), new look and Asda? One thing I have done is just got some primark vest tops and wear a long sleeved shirt / cardigan over it. They just pull down really easily and are really cheap.

Jojomamanbebe.co.uk have a few nice nursing tops in the sale at the moment - under £20.
Or GAP? I had a few nice things from there

Mothercare sale is pretty cheap at the moment.

H&M

I bought some nice nursing dresses from asda. I think they only sell mat clothes online

New look do some stuff mostly basics.

The ASOS stuff is really good and their own brand stuff is quite generously sized so you might get away with a 14. I'm a 14-16 post baby and easily wear 12s from ASOS.

They do have a discount for first purchase and their sales are quite good so I'd keep an eye out.

H&M do some nice stuff too.

And of course you can always do 'one up one down' with normal tops and a vest, or look out for dresses with cross over or deep stretchy necklines. (I wear a bandeau/boob tube underneath for a bit of extra coverage.)

I bought a couple of nursing tops but never really used them - I found that the most comfortable for me was as LRL2017 has suggested above - I bought long vests from Primark, then wore under a t-shirt or whatever other top I was going to wear.

With hindsight I would never have bought any nursing tops apart from an Isabella Oliver nursing dress which I wore when pregnant for work, then when I was working and nursing. I still wear it for work and other occasions now. It was expensive though and bought because I needed smart workclothes that I could also nurse easily in.

Just a hint I've learnt along the way...i got a few tops from Amazon to tide me over first few weeks until I switched to wearing a vest under a looser top. I found that my post baby hormones made me sweat loads so look for natural fabrics if at all possible.

Vertbaudet has some good nursing tops / dresses. I've found them really good but only 4 weeks in so need ease of access and am not confident with the 1 up/ 1 down method yet!

I rarely use the nursing tops I bought - I find them more exposing. A vest with a looser top over so you can do One Up One Down is my preference. Top tip: if you don’t actually put the vest over your shoulders but instead wind the spaghetti straps around the clips on your nursing bra, the top of the vest comes down as you undo the bra making it all very much easier to deal with.

When baby is done you can just let the looser top fall over and attend to doing your bra back up once baby is burped etc. I find nursing tops just leave me with my boob hanging out unless I race to tuck it all back away.

You honestly don’t need to buy any special clothes to breastfeed. I appreciate everyone is different but i’ve never bought any and have BF’d for over 3 years and counting. You can buy the cheap long h&m vests with thin adjustable straps and wear another top over. The vest gets pulled down at the neck under the other top to feed. Also tops that open down the front work well. I sometimes took a scarf with me - not to feed under but to drape over bits of me if my clothes had to be more open to feed than I was comfortable with in public. In the early days your maternity leggings (if you have some) can fill the gap when you pull up a top.

I’d be inclined to focus ££ on finding feeding bras you really like once baby arrives. I stressed about buying a fitted one pre baby 1 so I had at least one. I went from no boobs to huge boobs so pointless excercise. Baby 2 I just wore a stretchy night feeding one for a couple of days and then got some bras (the ones I knew I loved the last time) in the right size once baby arrived. One black one white one nude - done! I’m not normally a Debenhams fan but they have a decent selection. I liked the t shirt style ones as they give you a decent shape.

Have a look at cibii.co.uk (can I breastfeed in it) for some ideas.

Happy feeding!
