Basically is this something to avoid? I just bought some Anne French deep cleansing milk and it says it contains it on the back.......

Yes. I can just about not worry about it in nail polish, but something I apply directly to my skin? No chance.

Actually, I had to Google it, it's now banned from cosmetics in the EU. I know the FDA class it as a carcinogenic, but I don't know how that pans out in the USA and it's not really relevent to the UK.

That’s quite scary! Why is it in the stuff in the first place?? I hope they reformulate it.

Formaldehyde is a gas.

Formalin was used in cosmetics like nail polish but way back.

It's like green wallpaper being advertised as arsenic free.

Formaldehyde is an embalming fluid. I prefer to avoid it

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/01/2018 22:18

Formaldehyde is a gas.

Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde comes in many forms. The ingredient Imidazolidinyl Urea is an https Antimicrobial preservative. This acts as a Formaldehyde releaser and is used to kill microbes or stop their growth. So just as in Antibiotics against bacteria and Antifungals against fungi. So it’s used as an Antimicrobial preservative in cosmetics. It can cause skin irritation. However formaldehyde releasers are in many cosmetics and toiletries. So unless you check the ingredients on the product it’s quite hard to avoid these.

Formaldehyde releaser are safe to use in cosmetics and amounts used too small to pose a threat to human health.
