Big ears

So, I've always had large ears (inherited from both grandads!! Really bad luck!😩) and have been embarrassed and ashamed of them all my life. As a kid I had surgery to pin them back. But that didn't stop them being large... so, I wear my hair in a bob and pretend they're not there! That worked for me - and most people either don't notice or are just being pretty polite. Even my DH has never commented on them. But they're still a real sore point for me.
Anyway, tonight my 5 1/2 year old suddenly looked at me and shouted 'You've got massive ears!' BlushThen started laughing and trying to get a better look at them. Confused
He'd obviously never noticed before!

Ha ha indeed!!

I guess it's time to be an adult and face my demons. Any ideas how to handle this? He's at that age where if he spots any weakness he'll use it against me... and I don't want him to grow up thinking he can mock other kids' appearances to get the upper hand! Should I laugh it off or try some other tactic?

I think you need to show him that these things don't matter.

There will be something that he is insecure of later in life and your reaction now can inform his behaviour later on.

Ears are ears, they're functional. If yours are a bit quirky then that's cute. It adds character. My sister has one ear that sticks out more than the other and I have always pictured her as one of those puppies with lopsided ears. It's lovely and endearing.

I have massive nostrils. DP says that when I laugh he can see my brain. It's just a part of me. You like me-you like my nostrils!! We all have our thing.
