So I Experimented!

After watching The Truth About Looking Good last night, I decided to experiment this morning. One side of my face I carefully applied my Dior primer, Bobbi Brown under-eye concealer and Chanel Matt Lumiere foundation.

On the other side I used no primer, a cheapy Collection concealer and a Bourjouis Match Fit foundation that DD got for a pressie (good colour match).

Then I looked in strong sunlight in a magnifying mirror and...........there was absolutely zero difference. Both sides of face looked identical. Honestly.

Any thoughts? Anyone tried similar?

I think expensive make up is a self fulfilling prophecy.....as in, you wear ‘good’ stuff, and when you feel good, well....make up! But wear cheap, and any faults are pinned on the make up.
I know if I spent a fortune on a thing, I’m not going to allow myself to believe I wasted my money!

Try looking again in 6 hours after running a few errands, doing school run, walking dog etc.

Notreallyarsed · 11/01/2018 15:55

I have a mix in my makeup box, but the one really expensive luxury I allow myself is Lancôme mascara. It looks like false eyelashes (subtle ones)!

Look again at the end of the day. Primer stops my make up disappearing/sinking into pores and going patchy. I wouldn't be without it.

Bluntness100 · 11/01/2018 15:59

Agree, look again in a few hours and see which side lasts the pace.

I used to use EL Double Wear in my acne days and nothing could compare with that for coverage and lastability.

Now acne free I decided to switch to a cheaper brand (Max Factor Skin Luminizer which is fantastic stuff - incredible at giving my skin a youthful dewy glow) however if I got acne again I would switch to EL Double Wear in a heartbeat. Worth every penny.

Collection stuff is naff and lasts two minutes. Bourjois eyeshadow melts off in a couple hours, their blushers barely show up. Anything Clinique is a miss for me.

Rimmel and max factor do a great primer which is comparable to bigger brands. I've never found a good mascara

BuckysRoboticArm · 11/01/2018 16:15

Oops hit post.

...never found a good mascara under £12.

Basically it's hit and miss. There's good and bad in both ends of the market.

Whatever you pick will probably look nice when you first apply. The real test is time.

BrainSaysNo · 12/01/2018 01:35

@Notreallyarsed
what Lancôme mascara do you use?
Thanks

Notreallyarsed · 12/01/2018 12:51

this one here

@BrainSaysNo it’s far dearer than I’d usually go for but I bought it with birthday vouchers the first time and swear by it now.

Apparently they cut a lot of bits out including this...

So I Experimented!

^that's in reference to the cheaper foundation being shown as being the same as the higher end one.

ObiJuanKenobi · 12/01/2018 14:17

I use both MAC/BobbiBrown/HudaBeauty make up and also Primark cheap bits.

On initial application there isn't huge amounts of difference, I use a lot more product with the cheaper brand and it's much lower coverage.
If I'm just around the house, doing jobs, shopping..etc it's perfectly fine.

When I'm out on work appointments, meetings, on day outings or a night out the cheaper brands don't stand the test of time for me. The more expensive brands with a primer and setting spray will last me all day and evening without much movement.
