I’m 47, size 12-14 with a muffin top. Can you find me a ball gown that doesn’t make me want to cry?

As the title says really. I’ve been invited to a black tie event/ball taking place in February. I’d really like to go but very body conscious at the moment. I’m 5’’6 and naturally pear shaped. Was always size 10 curvy of hip but with washboard tummy before kids. Now best described as size 13 with hideous muffin top and bingo wings.
I don’t expect to look stunning but I’d like to look as less frumpy as possible.
Can anyone help?

There is a shop in Brighton which is supposed to be amazing . My friend uses it so I can check what they name is if you are interested but I wear lipstick dresses and I'm an hourglass . I wear Spanx higher power which smooth everything down and accentuate my waist and boobs . I use an instant tanner on my arms to make them not so white and flabbby and have my hair down to cover them up a bit .

This sort of thing , i order them through Next so I can try without buying .'maybe try Debenhams website too?

Thank you so very much for all your suggestions. I’m currently awaiting delivery of two dresses and the jumpsuit. As well as the two I mentioned, I’ve also ordered this
www.houseoffraser.co.uk/women/phase-eight-enid-tapework-dress/d778480.pd#253356703
one as, although it’s not got sleeves, it sits sort of over that top bit of arm. I’ll report back when they arrive and I’ve tried them all on. Thanks again everyone.

I wear those under bra shapewear slips with dresses smooths the lumpy bits & holds it all in nicely. I couldn't get on with the thigh to bra shapers but imagine its personal preference.
Phase eight do some very flattering dresses, I've bought mine mainly on ebay.

OlennasWimple · 12/01/2018 14:11

How does one manage spanx AND a jumpsuit, toilet wise? Confused Grin

OlennasWimple · 12/01/2018 14:23

OP, how about this blue "cold shoulder" dress?

This black dress is very staid but if you really jsut want to blend in, could be an option? You can play around with jewelry, accessories and hair to feel fabulous?

the ruffles might not be to your taste, but the cap sleeves on this dress might be good for you?

OlennasWimple · 12/01/2018 14:30

Kimono style (you could stitch up the front or insert a panel)

The structure in this dress means you prob wouldn't need spanx under it to have a killer waist (no sleeves though)

alphajuliet123 · 12/01/2018 14:35

Definitely get yourself some sucky-in pants before you try on, makes a massive difference!!

Mupflup · 12/01/2018 14:35

Not RTFT so not sure if anyone has suggested

Yet?

Just need to report that the website linked by Mumatoo from which I ordered the jumpsuit is a fake website. Just want to warn others. Not Mumatoo’s fault and luckily I paid via CC but it’s a fake. Be careful.

Oh crap! I'm so sorry Always. The name is similar to one I've seen recommended before so I didn't check any further. So so sorry. Glad you got it sorted.

AlwaysOneSock · 24/01/2018 18:34

No, it’s not your fault at all. The scammers have basically replicated Chi Chi London’s website. I spoke to the real Chi Chi today who have reported this wide scale fraud to the Met police but I just wanted to warn people on here.
