M&S new Curve range (plus size)

ShotsFired · 10/01/2018 11:18

Just got this: www.marksandspencer.com/l/women/plus-size-clothing?extid=SM_FB_P_NOW_WW_Curves

Is supposed to be launched on 23rd, but I saw some of the items yesterday when looking for a jumper online (didn’t realise they were new)

I like the embroidered shirt, but…£45?!
And also the slim leg trousers too.

The rest all seems fairly typically tent-like, with a few exceptions.

The large print isn’t very attractive either. It’s crap that if you’re bigger you get tent or rockabilly as your main style options. It’s not comfortable to wear a belt around your waist all the time to make things fitted. Sometimes you wonder who thinks these thinks look good. Even on the models they’re not flattering.

CiderwithBuda · 10/01/2018 16:19

None of it particularly inspiring. The most flattering item on the model at least seems to be the jumpsuit.

And why oh why do 3/4 length sleeves? If I'm wearing a jumper it's cold. I want my arms warm!

SwimmingInTheBlueLagoon · 10/01/2018 16:34

I'm fat - yep, but I'm also fat with quite a good well-defined waist and cracking boobs and I quite like to accentuate the bits I'm fond of - not hide under something that looks like it's escaped from the tent section of Mountain Warehouse.

Grin but so true. I am fat but I have a fantastically small waist (comparative to the rest of my body) and reasonably nice boobs. Thus I want to show off my boobs and waist, as they are the only good bits of my body. A tent large square shaped top only makes me look even fatter.

polyhymnia · 10/01/2018 16:39

Awful- predictably I guess. How can they get it so wrong?

SwimmingInTheBlueLagoon · 10/01/2018 17:24

Kung Fu being fat and tall usually isn't accommodated either. I think retailers generally think you can only be fat if you are average height.

I'm 5'10 and had massive problems when I went over a size 20 because the standard length of tops actually gets shorter! I've actually put a 22 on a flat surface on top of a 20 in the exact same t-shirt (on multiple occasions with various different tops) and the 22 will be a good inch shorterConfused. I mean wtf is that about? It makes them far too short for me.

Also most retailers stop longer length trousers at size 18-20, which makes it incredibly difficult to get trousers. There are a handful of places that do but generally horrible polyester.

bigtissue · 10/01/2018 17:40

Truly awful, all of the styles. Someone at M&S seems to be having a laugh Hmm

YouWereRight · 10/01/2018 17:44

It's all quite boring and blah really.

I liked the pale green pleather jacket, but it having half fabric on the sleeves is a pet hatred of mine.

SwimmingInTheBlueLagoon · 10/01/2018 17:49

Also the sleeveless coat?! What on earth is that about? If I need a trench coat on - then I also need sleeves.

helzapoppin2 · 10/01/2018 17:50

I like the dresses. They aren't tent like. I think anything that doesn't add extra yards of fabric is good, hence the waterfall cardigan wouldn't be for me.
I'm also on a quest for natural fabrics, Marks take note!

hollygolipo · 10/01/2018 18:04

Oh god. Waterfall cardigan - tick. Tent shaped tops - tick. Vile colours and hideous florals - tick. Pleather - tick.

When the holy fuck will retailers wake up and realise not everyone who's a size 18 plus wants to look they're either about to set sail or rammed into Ill conceived bodycon. Where are the beautifully cut capsule pieces, lovely knitwear that doesn't catch fire if you're within 100 feet of a naked flame, or god forbid a decent pair of well made trousers?

I now have the rage. M&S, I hate you.

RavenLG · 10/01/2018 18:41

Vile. But then again I’ve always thought M&S as being for pensioners and older demographic

MortifiedinAsda · 10/01/2018 20:03

I'm surprised Danielle Vanier has put her name to any of that Confused normally she models really nice pieces, some of it too outlandish for me but that preview was horrible.

Another one here for more natural fibres, silk, cotton, linen ( i am a big wool and cashmere fan) you'll have to go to Navabi for that sort of thing in a plus size though.

ShotsFired · 10/01/2018 20:18

What the fuck is that khaki trenchcoat on the Guardian link. She looks like a deranged beekeeper.

HellonHeels · 10/01/2018 20:23

I liked the wrap front top but it's polyester. As a fatty I already sweat too much and overheat this is a no go fabric.

polyhymnia · 10/01/2018 20:31

raven , because you are a ‘pensioner’ doesn’t mean you don’t want to look stylish, interesting, and modern!
Also totally agree with those pointing out problems of being fat and tall.
Amazed to see a 2 page spread in this week’s Grazia about how great this collection is. At least M and S’s PRs are earning their money! Pity reality is so different.

ilovecherries · 10/01/2018 20:31

Hmm. I'm the 'older' demographic but I certainly don't want to wear 'vile' clothes. Nor do any of my friends.

ilovecherries · 10/01/2018 20:32

Polyhymnia! We meet again :). With the same thought.

papayasareyum · 10/01/2018 20:36

my Mum is 82 and says she finds M&S old fashioned. Those clothes are all hideous. Tents and hideous waterfall cardigans, shapeless sack tops, unflattering colours, cheap fabric.
M&S get it wrong once again!

Butterymuffin · 10/01/2018 20:36

I'm still waiting for the fat & short range to come out somewhere

Joining this queue! Retailers, there's a fortune to be made by serving this market..

ShotsFired · 08/02/2018 13:46

I happened to spot that the full range seems to have been released now.

Don'#t get excited, it's all pretty grim:

There are something's that actually have a shape now at least (and coats with sleeves), just a shame that they are fully man made fabrics - mostly polyester.
