M&S modest range

Why not a modest range for men?

The use of the word 'modest' for a purely womens clothing line, actually should be called a cover-up range. Use of the word modest is disingenuous and insulting and reinforces the view of women as second-class and subservient .
Modest means less, small.....
When people with ,say, lupus , want cover up clothes it is not 'modesty' , and it is offensive to them to call it 'modesty' clothing.
They don't sell shorts as 'modesty' clothing for men!

Well, I think we know who they are targeting here Grin, so the word "modest" fits in with the cultural norms for women

It's just business, and a particular demographic being targeted by a retailer

'just business' has been used to justify very many bad things, e.g the treatment of women in business, the lack of women at the top, sexual harrassment - all known about and nothing said cos 'its the way it is'. I doesn't have to be, if people object rather than accept
