I am getting mine fitted this week. I have to have a few teeth on the bottom filed at the sides m, apparently just a millimetre. Has anyone had this done and how bad is it? I am ok with pain if I know what’s coming! And any other helpful tips would be much appreciated!

Just finished my treatment. Doesn't hurt at all. Just like a tiny sliver of sandpaper moving between your teeth.

LuckyAmy1986 · 09/01/2018 19:58

Thank you. I have heard they are hard to remove for eating is that right? And what did you use to clean them? If you don’t mind me asking!

I'm a month in with mine but haven't had the filing. Friend has though and she said it didn't hurt at all, as previous poster said really. Re taking in and out, I find they get easier to take out over the course of the 2 weeks. I was recommended to only use water and a toothbrush for cleaning and I soak them with a cleaning tablet a couple of times a week.

You get used to popping them out easily. Harder to pop out with a new set but then easier as they move. Retainer Brite tablets are good and toothpaste and brush in between soaks.

I had the filing so many times, it's unpleasant sensation but doesn't really hurt and over quickly. You get used to taking them off quickly too, I usually used my thumbnail for leverage under the back of the bottom one and my index and ring finger nails at the front of the top one. For a while I had many, many attachments holding them on, this required using a point end of a comb to prise them off, that was pretty awful.

Not painful, just a bit unpleasant re the sandpapery feeling. It is so much easier to floss my teeth now.

LuckyAmy1986 · 10/01/2018 19:59

Thank you, unpleasant and quick I can deal with! Apparently I am going to have lots of attachments too.

I'm on week 8 of Invisalign. First day was fine although my mouth felt full of plastic. Days 2-5 were really really sore as my teeth started to move. Now I get a tight feeling on the first couple of days of a new set but it soon feels fine. I have a slight lisp but am used to it now. I use an 'outie' tool from Amazon to remove mine but a metal teaspoon hooked underneath also works! At first it's annoying taking them out to eat but it's just normal now. Nobody has noticed they are in even when talking up close. I don't have any attachments yet so can't comment on those. You will brush your teeth a lot- 5 or 6 times a day- so stock up on toothpaste. I bought an electric toothbrush to make it easier. Also get some lip balm as the extra saliva production from having a foreign body in your mouth can make lips dry.

Would you mind me asking how much Invisalign is costing you? It’s something I have been considering for ages but never quite want to spend the money...

LuckyAmy1986 · 14/01/2018 10:48

Mine is £3.5k for top and bottom. I think it’s very dependent on the case and the dentist too from what I have heard.

I was hoping to find an Invisalign thread! I'm only a week in and also dreading the filing and having the attachments - and daunted at how long it will take.

My only helpful hint is using the stopwatch on your phone to make sure you keep within the 2 hours you're allowed to have them out. I'm astonished at how long it takes to manage prising them out, eating even a small meal, then all the brushing and rinsing and getting them back in again.

I miss taking my time over cups of tea and coffee (and glasses of wine) - but I guess it will get easier, and EYES ON THE PRIZE as my dentist said when I was leaving!

Oh, I just remembered - I'm using a couple of apps: Invisalign Smile tracks progress with photos, and nVisaremind reminds you when to change to a new tray and gives you a countdown to when you'll be finished.

I'm looking for recommendations for an orthodontist in London. If any of you had /having your invaslign done in London would you mind pming me the details.

LuckyAmy1986 · 24/01/2018 17:13

I am on tray one, I have attachments so I know the tray is in the right place and it's nice and tight. Apart from the bottom left molar which keeps popping up slightly. Has anyone else experienced this? It's isn't fully up but it won't stay right down. I just don't want this to affect the treatment. Seeing dentist next Thursday but just wanted opinions.
