Jack Wills - classic fashion?

As my username suggests , I am pretty fashion clueless. I really want a sophisticated, classic style as I feel I'm a bit of a style rut at the moment. I've looked at some nice items on Jack Wills, but I wondered how this style of clothes are regarded? Has anyone bought from them before, if so what items would you recommend? Are they good quality?

I quite like it.

I think of it as a bit 'rah' and identifiable pieces are usually worn by teens. But my DD isn't embarrassed if I pick something up for myself from there (ditto Hollister)

FashionClueless · 09/01/2018 11:47

@AuntieStella yes, that was another concern of mine, that it would be seen as too much of a teenager brand despite the fact many items are not obviously branded

I wouldn’t really say Jack Will was sophisticated and timeless. It’s more casual clothes for teenagers isn’t it? Hoodies and short dresses and stuff?

Are you looking for clothes for just bumbling around in? If so, where do you live - city, countryside? Do clothes need to be hard wearing or is it just for style?

FashionClueless · 09/01/2018 11:58

@SylviaTietjiens I need a bit of a mix - some clothes for bumbling around in , and some smarter pieces. I thought the brand would be good for dressing up and down/ smart casual look. I live in the town however I do go walking a lot in the countryside as I have a dog.

How old are you? I think the hoodies and sweatshirts are best left to the teenagers but they do some other more classic pieces.

Wtfdoicare · 09/01/2018 13:34

I have bought leggings from Jack Wills and they are extremely comfortable and soft.

OlennasWimple · 09/01/2018 13:50

I used to wear it in my 20s and have mostly left it behind (not least because the prices have gone up and the quality has gone down, so it makes me cross and old by hurrumphing about declining standards Grin )

Don't buy online. Returns cost a fortune.

FashionClueless · 09/01/2018 14:37

I'm 26. Luckily I live near a store so I reckon I could do their click and collect and return in store service if the items are unsuitable.

Oh dear, a lot of stores seem to have declining quality nowadays.

I’m 28 and slim and usually dress in quite a classic style. I like Jack Wills and if you look on pinterest they have some nice dresses and outfits that aren’t there usual sweatshirts and hoodies.

BoredOnMatLeave · 09/01/2018 14:42

I wouldn't say classic either. I don't think the things are bad in there though. I would stick to plain, not obviously branded items. But I think you could get more quality bits for cheaper elsewhere.

silkpyjamasallday · 09/01/2018 15:25

I used to shop there as a teenager, I'm 23 now and haven't bought anything for years, but it was good quality. I liked the slightly younger take on tweeds they did, the summer dresses are pretty timeless, shirts always washed well but the hoodies and tshirts are best left to teens who want to flash a brand name, but enough of it is plain enough and logo free to be worn by older people. I stopped wearing and sold it all on it because so many of my friends mum's started buying it though Grin

FashionClueless · 09/01/2018 15:59

Can anyone recommend any classic brands then?
Oh dear, so I'm either going to look like a teenager, or my friend's mums 😂

It's 'rugger bugger' wear, but the gilets are fabulous quality.

SylviaTietjens · 09/01/2018 16:13

Things that I consider timeless and sophisticated are generally basics. You can then accessorise them for different occasions. Baukjen, Hush and White Company do a lot of nice, durable basics.

PNGirl · 09/01/2018 16:30

They do a fantastic checked shirt. I bought one from their Shepton Mallet outlet this winter and the cotton is so thick.

FashionClueless · 09/01/2018 16:37

I'll have a look at those websites then, thanks for the recommendations! I've heard Hush is poor quality, but is that not true?

@PNGirl, I was looking at the shirts, they seem lovely. Think I might buy one now as you can put them with so many outfits
