Have an interview on Wednesday, for an office based job within a hotel.

I coukdnt decide between 2 outfits so bought them both... Both will be worn with black tights, but didnt have any to hand.

Which one is better?

I think the first outfit is more professional for an interview but keep the dress!

OlennasWimple · 09/01/2018 15:00

The dress (with some jewellry to lift it)

Black and white is a waitress look, especially in a hotel!

newdocket · 09/01/2018 15:10

I'd wear the first one for interview. The dress looks great though!

GameOldBirdz · 09/01/2018 17:33

There's an interesting split of opinion on here. That should tell you, OP, that it really doesn't matter. Both are great. It's not like everyone has said "Ugh, number 1/2 is hideous and completely inappropriate".

Remember that the interview panel won't actually see both outfits, they'll just see the one you show up in and dazzle them. They won't be thinking "She's a good candidate but it'd have been better if she'd worn her grey dress" Grin

neveradullmoment99 · 09/01/2018 18:22

I like both but think they will be able to see you working in a hotel wearing the first one. I say the shirt and skirt.

MsMarvel · 09/01/2018 21:27

Thank you! Think I'm going to go with the skirt and tights.

I'm so nervous about my interview! My stomach is totally churning, I'm torn between trying to prepare for the interview, to trying to out it all out of my mind to try and calm down, but then feel guilty about not preparing for the interview!

Realistically how much prep can I really do?

Skirt tights and blouse* obviously 😂

MsMarvel - don't be nervous. You are there as you definitely have the skills they need and you will bring calm professional efficiency to the role Smile

Go through the job description and make sure you have an example for each skill that matches. Eg: Experienced in preparing and presenting financial spreadsheets - what have you done in past or current experience that matches? Be specific. "In my current role I prepare monthly spreadsheets for the management team, tracking spend in the areas of X and Y, using data gathered from the area teams".

Definitely have prior knowledge of the company.

Prepare an answer to "Why do you want to work for us?" Most companies ask this. Say "Because X hotel is well-known in its field for offering excellent value for money whilst never compromising on customer service" or whatever. Find something positive to say about them. Try to shoehorn in that you would really like the opportunity to work for them. So many candidates come across as "meh" about their interviewing company. A bit of enthusiasm (without gushing) is memorable.

& remember to smile... Smile

froggybiby · 09/01/2018 23:52

Best of luck. I prefer the first one too. I agree with Sparklylightz, do your homework & prepare...I used to work in hotels for over 20 years. The amount of candidates who couldn't tell you the number of rooms in the hotel. ...one man arrived for interview with wife & kid, carrying Tesco bags. He was 10 minutes late. Asked his qualities he mentioned time keeping.Hmm

KiaOraAura · 10/01/2018 00:01

I prefer the first one but both are fine for an interview. Speaking as someone who has interviewed people more times than I can remember, as long as you are smart and appropriately dressed, dont worry about adding colour, standing out, not wearing something 'boring' etc. It really wont make any difference.

SwinginFromTheChandelier · 10/01/2018 08:03

Good Luck for today!

honeylou42 · 10/01/2018 08:24

The dress it looks fantastic, and good luck for today 🤞

MsMarvel · 10/01/2018 10:04

Thank you! I'm all ready to go but dont need to leave my house for another 45 minutes...😂 stomach is still churning with nerves, but I've learned some facts about the hotel/company, I've thought of some examples of current job things that will benefit the role, I just need to have confidence that I would be a good fit, which I think I would be.

I also need to hope the job pays enough for me to take it if I get offered, I'm accepting that I may need to take a drop in pay, (side step to a slightly different field rather than better job) I just hope its not too much.

Dress might look a little short when sitting down. Ist outfit. BTW, you have a lovely figure.

MsMarvel · 10/01/2018 12:52

Went with the first outfit, I'll find out at the end of this week whether I have a second interview or not, so if i do, I have another outfit to wear!

That's great, MsMarvel! Glad it went well and the dress is a perfect 2nd interview outfit. I always went with conservative 1st interview outfit and something a little bit more personality (just a touch) for 2nd interview. You look great in both. Good luck for a 2nd interview!
