skin care for 10 year old?

Can I ask what your 10-12 year olds do for cleaning their face? My 10 yr old DD has started to get a few spots, just 2 or 3 but it is clear that her skin is changing. Until recently she was just washing with plain water but I am wondering whether that needs to change. Over the hols I have used a bit of my hot cloth cleanser with her and that seems to have made quite an improvement. I am a bit cautious about introducing too many products or giving her things that are too harsh. Would anyone have any advice on cleansers for this age and on any good targeted spot treatments?

Thanks!

dd1 uses simple facewash amd daycream, and she has since she was about 11. She has also discovered a love of facemasks recently.

We have tried various things with my DD age 11. At the moment she is using nip and fab teen skin cleansing pads and Kiehls breakout cream occasionally on her nose/ chin.

Thanks both for your replies. Kilo- does your DD use the 'spotless' simple wash or the ordinary one? Marc - I had looked at the nip and fab pads - does she use them every day? I thought I might get her a cleanser and then these as a useful thing to have around if her skin needs clearing.

I have such awful memories of harsh, drying cleaners when I was a teen, I want to avoid doing that to her!

My DS (13) uses the Nip+Fab teen skin pads morning and evening. He had a lot of bumpy skin before he started using them and now his skin is pretty smooth. He still gets the occasional pustule type spot and he uses Clearasil or Boots Clear spot gel on it. A good sunscreen is enough of a moisturiser for him.

I did try him with a mild cleanser before we tried the Nip+Fab, but he's quite uncoordinated so he didn't like washing his face, and water went everywhere. The pads are easier because he just takes one, wipes his face and throws it in the bin.

just the normal one, she has tried other stuff but that is the one she gets on with best.

Yes she uses the nip and fab pads once a day- she refuses to contemplate anything more complicated like a wash or cleanser and these are really easy to use without any fuss.

I think when I was 10 I used Clearasil cleanser & moisturiser.

I will always be so grateful to my Mum for starting me on a good skin care regime when I reached puberty.

I started both our DDs using Ren products (they do a hot cloth cleanser). They're not cheap, but they are very gentle and use good quality ingredients. DD1 gets hormonal spots and has tried cheaper, more aggressive products, but always comes back to Ren.

Oh and they swear by Mario Badescu Drying Lotion for outbreaks.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I will take her shopping.

My 12 year old just uses plain old soap and water and a face cloth most of the time. She does like to have a pack of oil balance wipes too and uses the occasional face mask - the peel off cucumber ones.

I also have tea tree oil and lavender oil which she sometimes puts into cooled boiled water with a drop of almond oil and cleanses with cotton wool if she is getting a few pimples around her nose.

My DD 10 uses a neutrogena hydrating face wash in a blue pump.

My DS 12 uses my murad anti blemish face wash because he will insist on a fringe which gives him forehead spots which are now kept at bay since using it.

My dd began using the Superdrug drug vitamin E hot cloth cleanser. Soap & water isn't good because the ph of the soap is wrong for the skin as it's an alkali. She's got sensitive skin so she now also uses (on the advice of style & beauty actives thread) La Roche Posay dermo cleanser & it's really good.

Jassylaunderette · 11/01/2018 10:39

11 year old uses tea tree foaming face wash on some days, plain hot water on others, then a mild day cream.

12 year old dd got a couple of spots and I got her to start Avene Cleanance cleansers which are gentle but have worked very well. She uses a wash off one in the shower and a micellar one if she's in s hurry in the mornings.
