My teeth are going crooked

For most of my life I've had perfectly straight teeth, never worn braces or had any major dental issues. As I've got older I've noticed they have gradually become a bit crooked.

It wasn't too bad to start, but I've just (5 minutes ago) seen a recent photo of myself and I feel a bit upset tbh. It really has become quite noticeable, on my bottom row of teeth particularly. I've now had a flashback of my dad's teeth, which were really crooked and became more and more so over the years.

I know I need to see a dentist but just wondered if anyone on here has had experience of this sort of thing? Will braces work at my age? (I'm 31). And would they be expensive?

I've noticed a small gap opening up in the middle of my bottom teeth. They must shift and move as we get older. Yay, another thing to worry about!

Oh yay. The joys

I had my teeth straightened at age 43. My dentist recommended this www.inmanaligner.com/
It cost about £2K if I remember correctly, but I was amazed that it was all over after 6 weeks, I had assumed I'd be wearing braces for months / years.
I have a wire behind my teeth now to stop them moving again.

Me too! I think mine are becoming more crooked but I can't be sure. I'm definitely self conscious of them now and never used to be. I wonder how they could move for no apparent reason at my age though? (I'm 32).
Could it be possible that we are just becoming more aware of a problem that was always there? I'm going to book a dentist appointment soon and ask them.
I think Invisalign cost a couple of thousand but can't fix all problems, depends on the severity.

Mine have got significantly worse, big gap and turning, bottom front. Makes me sad. I don't have the £2k to sort it.

You may get away with Invisalign braces which are like clear gum shield style - that you can take in and out - but you pretty much need to wear them ALL the time apart from eating...or you may need train track style, you can get clear/white these days which look much better. Price wise depends but I would say expect between £1500-2500 depending on what you need, Invisalign is cheaper (well, was for me) but you will be able to pay in installements over the course of the treatment.
I’ve had braces 3 times by the way...
Also ask about getting a permanent retainer once your dental work is finished, which is like a wire across the back of your teeth to hold them.

I'm 40 and I've just got a week left of my invisalign braces. I have braces when I was younger but my teeth had moved back again and were pretty wonky. It's cost me £3k and has been a bit inconvenient at times but has been worth every penny. I now show my teeth when I smile.

Thank you everyone for the replies. Those braces sound expensive but might be worth saving for. I'll speak to my dentist

Oh just seen about paying in installments. That's useful to know. Thank you :-)

I've noticed just one of my bottom front teeth is now very noticeably "forward" compared to the rest and it's really bothering me.

I didn't know why this had happened and then I realised it's probably because my wisdom tooth came throw and I think it's shoved everything forward and that tooth had to move out the way?

I don't think i could afford braces nor would I want a full set for 1 tooth though
