Please recommend me some black brogues or lace ups or buckle shoes for DD 15. They need to be wide across the toe area but narrow around the heel/ankle.

She's got flexible flat feet so can't wear shoes that are too flat or slip on. Her current brogues (Geox) are too narrow where her little toe is and are a bit scruffy now so I would like to find something that will see her through to the end of Year 11, in 18 months. There don't seem to be many brogues around. Does anyone have a recommendation that would help, brand-wise? I don't have great shops near me so I'm resigned to ordering multiple pairs online to try at home.

My feet are that shape and I can wear lace ups from Seasalt (free returns) but I’m not sure about black. Also Tamaris shoes are that shape and you can get them online. They seem to come up half a size bigger than other makes. Otherwise I put full insoles in which helps in any other shoes.

Ah yes Tamaris, I forgot about them. Thank you. That's a start.

What about the brogue style doc martens? They have room in the toes and good supportive soles. I normally buy a size or half a size down

I was going to look at DMs too. Good to know they might fit the bill.

Clark's do black 'Hamble Oak' brogues in a wide fitting.

toboldlygo · 09/01/2018 17:28

Unfortunately Clarks seem to extend 'wide fit' to the ankle bit as well, my Hamble Oaks were perfect across the toe area but really gapey at the ankle. They are comfy though.

Seconding the DM recommendation and also, although they are scary expensive (about £200-250 if you can find a pair at an outlet) Church's brogues are the most comfortable and elegant things I have ever put on my massive flat feet. Utterly daft for school shoes obviously but if she ever wanted to invest in a 'for life' pair.

Another vote for DMs. I have the 3989 unisex brogues, I don’t have a narrow heel and they do pinch a bit at the back so reckon they would fit the bill. Less than £100 and will last more like 18 years than 18 months!!

notafish · 12/01/2018 14:32

Thanks for the further DM recommendations and clarifying how wide/narrow the back is on the 3989. I've ordered a pair of Tamaris and another brand and if they don't fit correctly , we'll go for the DMs.

I have feet that shape it is difficult. Sea salt brogues were so narrow I could not move my foot. I would not recommend.

Have a look at clarks griffin mia in wide. It's a buckle shoe rather than brogue, but I think the strap would help it fit better round narrow ankles - more so than a brogue which tends to ease out with wear.
