Can anyone help with a bra intervention for DD?

Pretty please..
Currently wearing and outgrowing rapidly a 28AA.
I've measured her and it's coming out as her chest (band) is 34 inch and the fullest part of her chest is 33 inch.
According to the method I've found online she's a 34 A cup. This doesn't seem right.
She's a slim 5 "2' 13 yr old in size 6/8 clothes.
She's also dying of embarrassment that I need to measure her. She also also died of shame telling me she needs padding as her nipples pop out in the cold!
Bless her little socks.. any advice would be brilliant. I don't want to take her to try any on without having a good idea of the sizes to grab.
Thank you.

35 inches for her boobs. Not 33!

Take her to be fitted and give her cash to pick whichever one she likes best. M and S or a big dept store. The best places actually don't use a tape measure because all brands are different. Bravissimo are great but only for DD+ sizes.

PaperdollCartoon · 07/01/2018 22:27

Use this calculator booborbust.com

Don’t go to M&S they’re awful, she’ll end up in too big a band and too small a cup.

FlowerPotMum · 07/01/2018 22:37

She hates the thought of being measured.. took me long enough to convince her let alone anyone else. Plus I've not heard anything good about m&s 😞.
I tried to Google the MN intervention method but it wouldn't load threads with the app.
I'll look at the link now. Thank you.

Coming to 34A from 28AA does sound too much. I also had the real problem with finding a bra for DD, eventually got non-wired non-padded cotton bras (set of 2) from Debenhams. It's soft and feel more natural. They also had non-wired padded cotton bra, if you are after padding.
We did bra shopping on Friday/Saturday everning one hour before closing time when the shop was nearly empty and shop assistants were less interested in you.

titchy · 07/01/2018 22:43

No way can she be 34! I'm 36 and I'm size 14 16

Put her current bra on and measure under her boobs - I bet she's a 28.

Can you get a selection for her to try at home, say 26 C, 28 B, 30 A in the same brand and see what fits best.

greenlynx · 07/01/2018 22:45

I also second against M&S, my DD went twice to different stores to booked appointments and they were unhelpfull!

FlowerPotMum · 07/01/2018 22:47

Her chest ( band) definitely measures 34 inches, 33 pulled tight. The link above give me a 34B for her! That seems huge!. The 28 fits around her chest but is slightly too tight, but she's literally growing over the cup.
I think we will have to go and have a proper look in Debs or somewhere. Apparently all her friends shop at 'Pink' or Victoria's secret and I'm a fuddy duddy for daring to suggest Debs! 😂

When you/she measured her chest, what was the actual measurement of her ribcage, the bit where the band goes? If she's a size 6/8, I'm almost certain her ribcage is not 34 inches.

FlowerPotMum · 07/01/2018 22:55

Eeek, I'm doubting myself now. I literally just measured where her bra strap had been.
I'll have another go tomorrow if she's willing!.
Thank you.

I'm a size 12/14 and am in a 32 band. There's no way your DD can be a 34 at her dress size. If she were a 34 then she'd not be able to get a 28 round herself, let alone do it up.

Are you adding inches to the measurement you're getting as per the old method OP? (Sorry if you're not, just can't understand how the two numbers are so far out)

Dilligaf81 · 07/01/2018 22:59

I went to primark and Debenhams got dd to pick styles and we chose different sizes to see which was best. That way she wasn't embarrassed, wore the bras as she picked them and it didn't cost me a fortune.

AlexanderHamilton · 07/01/2018 22:59

Is she very broad? I'm a size 12/14 42 year old and my underbust only measures 32/33 inches.

You arnt adding any inches onto her actual underbust measurement are you?

AlexanderHamilton · 07/01/2018 23:00

As a comparison Dd is 5ft 3 & a size 6/8 clothes size & she wears 30D

FlowerPotMum · 07/01/2018 23:01

I must be going wrong somewhere! I didn't add inches, just did the difference between the two measurements as per the old fashioned method.
She's fast asleep now, but I'll have another go in the morning.
Thank you all.

FlowerPotMum · 07/01/2018 23:03

No, she's not broad at all. She's long legged and short bodied, curvy on her hips and obviously her chest area.
I must be going wrong somewhere!
Thank you all.

John Lewis's will measure them in vest/crop tops etc then get bras leave while they try and pop back in to check them

Only place I take my teenage dd's

hidengosqueak · 07/01/2018 23:05

I always go with bravissimo after years of being measured wrongly. Dd came with me for a measuring and they did hers too even though they didn't stock her size 28 B, now she goes in on her own and they tell her to go 1 cup size up as she is growing so they last longer. It works like a charm

FlowerPotMum · 07/01/2018 23:09

Thank you all! I'll report back when I've re-measured her.

I'm a size 6/8 and 28 inch band. Or I was before DC.

Justturned50 · 07/01/2018 23:10

I second the idea of buying a few and letting her try them at home. She can put them under different tops to make sure they're right. I never try bras on in a shop. Perhaps ask her to choose some that she'd like and get them in a couple of sizes.

wonderingagain21 · 07/01/2018 23:20

My teenage daughter is a size 8 and very skinny front to back but she has muscly back/shoulders from sport and slightly broader than average shoulders. She wears a 32" band so you might be pretty close. We are all very different shapes. I odered umpteen teen bras in loads of sizes and returned all but 2.

FlowerPotMum · 08/01/2018 09:09

@wonderingagain.. I started to think my DD was possibly the same as yours.. she's a gymnast and fairly strong in the shoulders. But, no I've measured her again and I'm getting 29inches. Who knows how I managed 34 ( twice!) last night?!.
I'll put her new measurements into the calculator and we will try again! -i'll also book the opticians for me-
Thank you for all the suggestions and help. I think I'll take her at the weekend and have a look in JL and Debenhams 😁.

H&M have some pretty soft lacy bras in lots of different colours with padding. They might do if she's growing out of them fast.

e.g. this

FlowerPotMum · 08/01/2018 09:22

Thanks Lekker, I've got a top that needs to go back to H&M so two birds with one stone!. We went in ours last week though and it looked like a jumble sale!. I'll give it another couple of days before I try again.
