Has anyone successfully get rid or shrunk pores/black heads? Any recommendations?

You should try the ordinary products . Niacinamide is great for shrinking pores and for the blackheads salycilic acid is the best thing you can possibly use.

Don’t be fooled by these clean and clear products etc with 0 active ingredients .

I’m a super fan haha ! As with all active products you need to make sure you’re wearing a daily spf ( not just in moisturisier ! )

There’s a great fb group called “ the ordinary and deciem chat” that can help you set a full routine and you can also contact deciem direct for a routine xx

bringmesunshine7 · 07/01/2018 15:38

Thanks @riledandharrassed, I had a look at their stuff before Christmas, I'll look again tonight.

Is there a certain one you recommend? I'm not on Facebook so don't think I'll get onto that group.

Thanks for your suggestion ☺️

A very basic routine from TO would be ;

Morning :

Buffet Applied to damp skin
Niacinamide
Moisturizer there’s a nice olay one in a red tube often on 50% off or TO do NMF
Spf

Evening post cleanse
Buffet
Niacinamide
Salycilic acid on black head areas ie nose - but don’t put Niacinamide in these areas!
Moisturizer to lock it in - ideally TO NMF or similar

Re blackheads I’ve found professional extractions to be helpful , Salcylic acid take nearly 2 months to show impact or it did for me so isn’t a short term fix BUT it is the absolute best product for these areas.

Also are you sure they are blackheads and not sebaceous filaments ? Might be worth googling sebaceous filaments if you’re not sure ! I wasn’t till recently

Shame you’re not on fb lots of us share journeys and lots of before and after pics! Maybe make an account just to join us .

Xx

Spf wise La roshe posey - cannot spell it do a good face one but it is teeny tiny .

I personally use Nivea water gel which is from Japan - ordered for £10 via amazon and it’s lasted ages ! It’s huge . I love trying random Japanese and Korean sunscreens !

Pollyp87 · 07/01/2018 15:46

It’s a bit pricey but I’ve been having a derma peel every 6 weeks and it’s working really well for me. Takes a few to start to see the difference but it’s definitely improving. It’s £77 a go though....!!! It’s a really lovely feeling afterwards though now clean your skin feels.

bringmesunshine7 · 07/01/2018 15:48

I got a chemical peel a while back and that seems to have changed my skin😏

OP posts:
riledandharrassed · 07/01/2018 15:50

I’ve been looking at peels . What put me off is Destinations skin wanted me to purchase a range of products to use before hand 😂 including a product I already had but no that wasn’t ok they have to sell me the full range . Needless to say I will be going somewhere else

Pollyp87 · 07/01/2018 15:51

I’ve never braved the full chemical one, derma is as far as I’d dare go I think!

yourhavingagiraffee · 07/01/2018 15:53

I really regret it. I went for it thinking it would maybe help my dry skin but it's really ruined my skin.

yourhavingagiraffee · 07/01/2018 15:54

Skins completely changed now, very red, I now have wrinkles on my forehead. Nightmare!!

Large pores
Pollyp87 · 07/01/2018 16:48

Oh no!! I will definitely stick with my derma peel!

Liz38 · 07/01/2018 21:17

I've just looked up the ordinary niacinamide (?) As I love the recommendations here, but it costs £5 plus £4.70 p & p, so double the listed price more or less. Is it that good? Can it be bought in store out of London?

hmmwhatatodo · 07/01/2018 23:41

What’s a Derma peel?

I’ve been using a salicylic face wash for a few months now. I think it’s 2%. I use it around 3 times a week. I like the fact that it’s the only face wash I’ve ever been able to use regularly without my face feeling tight and horrible. I also use a 10% glycolic gel (feels like water) about 3 or 4 times a week but I can’t say I notice much difference with my pores. Would niacinamide help?

pearlkent · 08/01/2018 00:35

Pollyp87, I'd also be interested to know what a derma peel is - is it specifically for large pores/blemishes/oily skin?
I think there are loads of types of peels for different things. The stronger ones seem to be more for wrinkles/discolouration, and they seem to be the ones that need preparatory (expensive) skincare.

Can anyone tell me where to get TO Niacinamide, as it seems to have been out of stock for ever on all the websites that sell it.

riledand harrassed - why shouldn't it (Niacinamide) be put on the blackhead areas?

And, generally, for anyone who might know - is it really possible to shrink/reduce large pores by any means? Everything I've read (that isn't written by someone trying to flog me a miracle product) says that it is NOT possible to reduce the size of pores. It's either genetic, or the pores have been enlarged over the years by excess oil production, and it's impossible to shrink them. I'd love this to be wrong, but I fear it's true.

Whisky2014 · 08/01/2018 01:32

pearl they have it in stock directly from their website
I just spent 30 there...never heard of them before. Also really hoping the foundation I chose was the correct colour!

doubleshotespresso · 08/01/2018 01:43

To previous posters recommending the Ordinary products, are there any outlets in the UK where you can actually try these out in the flesh as it were? Or actually see a rep who can explain all the baffling products? I am really keen to try these things, but every time I visit the Deciem website I get dazzled and give up Sad

Pollyp87 · 08/01/2018 09:45

The derma people I have is this one -
skeyndor.co.uk/dermapeel-pro/

It’s essentially a really deep exfoliating facial. It gets all the deadskin and dirt out which helps reduce the size of pores and give a smooth surface. I had a ‘diagnosis’ session first where they looked at my skin using a specialty system to identify problem areas and what the suitable treatment would be.

Pollyp87 · 08/01/2018 15:06

Also @hmm I use the Clinique 3 step system as well and the toner has salicylic acid in too and that’s really helped with my pores too

hmmwhatatodo · 09/01/2018 20:45

Thanks polly. So you went to their shop and bought products to use at home? I assumed it was some sort of treatment carried out by them. I have had 3 mandelic peels and while I now see they have improved my skin I can’t say it did anything for my pores and I’m too nervous to have a glycolic peel or anything stronger!

HoneyDragon · 09/01/2018 21:17

Mine are gone totally.

I was any old facewash with sacyclic acid in it in the mornings.

I remove my make up on the evenings and clean my face with almond oil. (Or Emma Hardie on the rare occasions my budget justifies it)

I also Sauna at least four times a week and then wipe my face immediately after with Gyycolic acid (I use the Freedom one)

I has a mixture of open pores and sebacus filaments and neither show at all now Smile

bringmesunshine7 · 10/01/2018 09:25

That's great @HoneyDragon,I'll take a look. Been a hectic week so not had time to look at all products.

Skins worse now than when I was a teenager 😑

I started using nip and fab products when they were on special offer in Superdrug. It made a huge difference to my pores and then I switched to the super drug version which is pretty much as good but doesn't smell as nice

Pavonia · 10/01/2018 10:10

The Abnormal Beauty Company have a shop in spitalfields where you can buy the Ordinary range as well as their other ranges.

The B range in superdrug is really good and cheap. It does seem to be shrinking my pores ‘, mostly because it totally cleans them out so they’re able to shrink.
