Re: recommend a warm coat

Hello all,
I own a few coats ( and just got a new one for Xmas) including a long cashmere blend, a long silk blend and a sheepskin coat. They’re all bum length or below ( usually ankle length) but they’re just not combatting this cold!!
I used to have a ski jacket which kept me warm but between moving house twice this year I appear to have completely lost it ( SadSad).
So, I’m on the look out for a coat which is warm and not too expensive ( maybe up to £50). I don’t mind puffers or ski type coats, not a big parka girl, and would appreciate any recommendations.

Can anyone tell me they’re super warm coat recommendations, oh S&B gurus?

TIA x

I got an exceptionally warm coat for xmas but it was £250 ish . You need down fro warmth and that costs .

Yes I agree you have to spend some money and think of it as an investment. Think canada goose.

I bought a feather and down belted puffer with hood from boden it was 200 down to 133. Waiting to see if it is warm.

Decathlon snowboard jackets (not the ski ones, they're too short) are really good but mine was £70 so a bit much

I agree you'll have to spend some money. I bought a Didrikson coat from eBay for less than £100 and it's lovely and warm. I think being windproof is the thing that keeps you really warm, rather than bulk per se

Also love my didrikson's one. I needed warm, properly waterproof and windproof. Get a better quality coat but second hand...

hendricksyousay · 04/01/2018 19:58

Didrikson are on offer everywhere at the moment .

My down coat is really scruffy and I have replaced it with a £40 Trespass Roanstar II coat from amazon but prices vary depending on size and colour. I agree with above it is not as warm as down however it is warmer than I expected when I had felt how light weight it was. It is properly waterproof and has a neater look than a true Parka. I am going to bin the Parka but I am not ruling out buying down again in the future.

If you have lots of coats you may get be better layering with thermals and jumpers and saving up for a proper winter coat.
