Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8 Thread 9 Thread 10

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

NEWish since previous threads:

Understanding Which Sunscreen(s) to Buy

Do I Really Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day of the Year?

A Damaged Skin Barrier - Now What?

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

JANUARY 2018: Thread 11! Shock we're getting old. A recap of The Snailies categories for those still meaning to get round to them:

🐌🐌 THE SNAILIES 2017 🐌🐌

Wink The Well Hello There - newest and latest find that gets your motor running

Angry The Flusher- money spent on this product would have been better put to use by flushing it down the toilet

Halo The Jack & Rose- the product you’ll never let go of because there’s plenty of fucking space for the two of you on that piece of wood. Damn you, James Cameron, for breaking my poor little tween heart.

Biscuit The LTB- it all seemed so promising, everything was going so great, then they turned out to be a narcissist gaslighting bastard

Envy The Child Prodigy- that one product that’s annoyingly good and isn’t afraid to be smug about it

Smile The Worker Bee- never the centre of attention but has been steadily chugging along like no other

Hmm The Troll- the one where you repeatedly asked, ‘Is this doing anything?’, but continued to use it anyway…

Confused The Flabbergaster- that one product or technique that wasn’t really supposed to be used like that or delivered well beyond your non-existent expectations

Blush The Sinner- oh, admit it because we’re all guilty of it, what did you do or use that wasn’t all that sensible like take an acid bath and had the disastrous results you really knew to expect

I have a huge cold and I comfort ate a Big Mac. Never ever as nice as you think they'll be btw, don't do it. They're not even nice. I think I just wanted hot gherkins...So anyway, I'll have to ignore my skin for a few days whilst it gets over it. Must try to eat healthier from now on.

EnidButton · 25/01/2018 22:43

*avene water

👑👑👑

neonlicht · 25/01/2018 22:45

Thanks Enid, my skin is pretty good at generating a greasy film all by itself so I'll avoid! I'll look into the avene stuff.

EnidButton · 25/01/2018 22:49

It's just plain water so a bit daft really and yet it does seem to calm my skin down. It's also good for a refresh if your make up starts to look a bit patchy or dry. A lot of people prefer the la Roche Posay one and boots sell mini bottles of them to try. (Not sure which make)

neonlicht · 25/01/2018 22:56

I've always struggled to get my head round what water sprays actually do, but I think it's worth a try. And a mini one would be good to carry around with me. Hope the Big Mac aftermath isn't too bad! I think I tried McD's too late to get a taste for it, but I have a similar relationship with crap chocolate. Really not worth it but so hard to resist sometimes.

userallusedup · 25/01/2018 23:00

I use the Vichy thermal water spray & before that had the LRP one, I mainly use them for layering with HA & moisturiser but also find them good like Enid says if I’ve overdone the powder or it’s clinging to flaky patches. I have serozinc too but didn’t think it did much to help either oiliness or flakiness so don’t really use it.

I also have a urban decay setting spray that I impulse bought when it was reduced, reviews were amazing but I don’t think it does anything at at all to reduce shine or prolong makeup.

Must remember to test the REN primer tomorrow, I have Very High Hopes but will probably be disappointed.

Tantpoke · 26/01/2018 00:56

Enid I love a Big Mac or a BK Whopper, I probably have one of each a year, yum

Neon I also didnt get on with LRP Serozinc.

I am however in Love with the idea of 12 proper facial treatments with this beauty of a kit. Even though it's pricey it is so worth it imho as I will never have the time to visit her clinic and get a proper facial like this which is perfect for my skin. It would be practically the same price for one treatment I'm guessing. See link below. I love it and I want it. Glitterball

4. 24ct gold plated Massage tool - maximises the Peptide Treatment’s potency by vibrating the product into skin.

...This looks very much like the "massage" tools they used to advertise in the back of Woman's Weekly in the 80's. For "tension".

Caroline Hirons did a video with TT introducing this kit yesterday. It's £380. I think she said one treatment in her salon is £260. It'll be on her YT channelling.

Enid Grin

botemp · 26/01/2018 12:59

I was just about to reply to Enid, there are weirder things to be pervy about. Then I saw the picture... in the preview of the photo it looks much more like an inflating device for men. That plus all the gold shinyness and teeny tiny bottles of bollocks for teeny tiny hands... this clearly was designed for Trump by the Russians.

In other earth-shattering news, I've never eaten a Big Mac in my life, seems really unapetising somehow, a Whopper (also never eaten) has much more appeal for reasons I can't rightly explain Confused.

user, I want to be a fly on the wall when you finally get to doing your brows. Failing that, lots of pics, pretty please?

I love a Big Mac (without onion) however a quarter pounder with cheese (again no onion) is my fave Grin

mintmagnummm · 26/01/2018 13:30

My new shampoo and conditioner came this morning and I'm excited, I bloody love receiving beauty product packages! Can't wait to use it in the morning but at the same time I'm very anxious, I just hope it's not going to be another disaster

Tantpoke · 26/01/2018 14:55

enid it also comes with a specially made derma roller, derma roller cleaner, silicone face mask plus syringes of HA to apply 24 -48 hours after

JDSTER · 26/01/2018 17:29

Hope you’re cold is getting better Enid. I’ve been taking a probiotic, since the autumn, I got from VH called Florassist immune health. I haven’t had a single cold or virus since taking it. I’ve been surrounded on a few occasions with people coughing and sneezing but so far I haven’t succumbed. I’m usually the first to get a cold so I absolutely swear by it. Literally it’s the first autumn/winter in living memory when I haven’t had a virus of some sort. I’m also careful to not touch my face/eyes/mouth. Good for the skin obviously to not be touching but also to stop the viruses getting in.

Two weeks today I’m off to Tenerife for some winter Vitamin D top up- with sunscreen of course 😇

mintmagnummm · 26/01/2018 18:48

JDSTER hope you have a lovely holiday, I really liked Tenerife when we went

mintmagnummm · 26/01/2018 18:49

Is it wrong that I look forward to my bha nights?! Lol

mintmagnummm · 26/01/2018 18:52

Oh no I'm triple posting again sorry Enid 🤦🏼‍♀️. Forgot to say that so far I'm really liking the Vichy mineral 89, I love the fact it's a 50ml size rather than the usual 30mls which makes it better value! I'm enjoying the texture and I only need one pump, that covers my whole face and neck, it spreads really nicely and doesn't absorb too quick so can do a nice massage with it (it does eventually absorb) and absolutely no tackiness! Thumbs up so far

userallusedup · 26/01/2018 19:29

I just typed a long post and my iPad ate it Confused

Bo I’ll try and share brow photos, never posted one here before so will have to work out how to do it. And of course the whole thing could be an unmitigated disaster Grin

I think I like the REN primer, but could be emperor’s new clothes syndrome again so will keep testing before spending £50 on it, the samples should last a couple of weeks.

userallusedup · 26/01/2018 19:32

Testing photo upload capabilities please ignore unless you like puppies

Oh it’s worked Grin so I’m all set for brow pics.

And sorry for triple post, tying with Mint though 👑👑👑

EnidButton · 26/01/2018 20:57

Oh my god! The puppies! 😍

mintmagnummm · 27/01/2018 11:49

I have one of my migraines today and the high dose aspirin has failed (took at 7am)

ElspethFlashman · 27/01/2018 11:54

Puppies? Tenerife?? Jealous of you ALL.

mint i bought the Vichy 89 this week and have to say am also really enjoying it. More than I thought! I had been using a Lacura one (red bottle) and whilst I have liked them in the past, I hate this one, it's gloopy. So I'm using that up at night and have switched to the 89 in the mornings as it layers so easily with everything.
