Interview next week and nothing to wear. Help me please!

I've got a job interview next week, for which the dress code is 'smart casual'. I'm skint, overweight and have nothing to wear!

I usually wear something fitted on the top, with wide leg trousers, as my top half has always been the bit of me worth emphasising (apart from my arms!) and the bottom half I want to disguise. I'm now a 14 - 16 on the top and a 16 (not quite 18) on the bottom, so nothing feels worth emphasising at the moment. Sad

I'd like to find a pair of comfortable, smart trousers in a thick, soft fabric with a bit of stretch to them (used to have a pair in a sort of slightly plush fabric, not sure what it's called - not velvet). Haven't found anything like that, though. Open to other suggestions, though.

There are a couple of Scarlett and Jo tunic type tops I quite like, but I don't know what to team them with. I'd like to wear my Dr Martens, but not sure if that's smart enough. I don't wear heels.

I hate clothes shopping! Sad

I think the trouser fabric you like was moleskin (not actual moles!).

I’d agree that DMs are not suitable for an interview, although I am a fan!

I got these trousers recently for smart occasions. They are surprisingly flattering and comfortable, they would be perfect for an interview.these.

Soft stretchy black trousers

Thank you BikeRunSki. Moleskin, yes! Bit of stretch, but don't go baggy at the knees or anything. Those ponte trousers look comfortable, but like they would go baggy at the knees over the day.

The Closet ones look great! I've got a pair of brown/tan ankle boots (sort of suede/nubuck) that I could wear, but they're a bit tatty - more so than my docs, really, which are new and pretty smart (matt, not patent). Docs wouldn't work even if they are immaculately polished?

I’d brush up the ankle boots to be honest.

Try Wallis - they have comfortable smart trousers and have a good sale on. The tunic top is pretty casual though. Could you wear something a little more structured? Plenty of bargains around right now in the shops. And a big no to Dr Martens for an interview.

I’m struggling too op. I was thinking my Mary Jane docs! But now looking at brogues.... flat, smart, sturdy!

Thank you for all the input!

No chance of new shoes, thanks to £200 vet bill yesterday after thieving hound managed to snaffle DD's Christmas chocolate stash. Hmm

When you say structured, Bluebell, what sort of thing do you mean?

Is 'smart casual' (hate that term) still pretty damn smart, then? I really haven't a clue. Blush
