In my opinion John Lewis.

I have had success with John Lewis. A 2 hour appointment post maternity leave sorted me out with a new work wardrobe - best thing was the boost in confidence it gave me which helped me get promoted Smile

I had a good experience with house of Fraser

I've used Debenhams a few times with success. Part if the attraction is that it's just a relaxing way to shop, you have a big changing room to yourself and the stylist does all the running to get different sizes and colours and you can try on things without feeling rushed. I'm not sure it was a transformative style experience but they definitely picked up things I wouldn't have bought otherwise. There's no hard sell either.

I have recently used both John Lewis and Debenhams. I think that like most things, it depends so much on the individual.

I visited the personal shoppers because I was finding it really difficult to find an outfit for a wedding before Christmas.

I found the John Lewis personal shopper to be excellent and she had spent a lot of time on training courses (for her own personal development and before she joined JL). She had read what I wanted before I got there and brought me age, style and occasion appropriate clothes.

The Debenhams personal shopper on the other hand really didn't understand what I needed and brought out completely the wrong clothing and some extremely unflattering outfits.

Ok so went for my appt at JL. Was ok .. felt like she understood what I was after initially but then she came up with some odd things later on. Anyway was nice to just try stuff on whilst she ran around but the 2 hours flew by! Def opened my eyes to different things but it has also confirmed that I know what suits me. I did try on some tops and shoes that I would never have picked myself which I liked. The prob was there was about 500 quid worth of clothes that I liked .. v little in the sale unfortunately! I spent £200 but could easily have spent more but just can't justify it. All now feeling a bit guilty about the 200 quid but you do feel a certain pressure to buy. Every time she said will you be getting this and i said no ( even though I said I had liked it on me and meant it) I felt a bit guilty!

Anyway got 2 fenn Wright mason tops for going out a phase eight jumper and a Hobbs skirt.

I do wish there were personal shopping services in the shops at the lower end of the market like h and m or m and s because I would like more for my money! I tried Debenhams a couple of years ago and it was awful but it was sale time and I was fatter so maybe was me!

skirt looks lovely!

I was in JL too yesterday - they are making some good money from the both of us ;)

I picked this one from what the PS brought me: []m.johnlewis.com/hobbs-marisa-cotton-rich-mini-skirt-navy-multi/p3364787 hobbs skirt]]

sunshine546 · 04/01/2018 20:17

There were at least 3 more Hobbs skirts that looked nice on me that I could have bought by they are £££😟

I went to JL but it wasn't successful for me.

The biggest issue was because I'm petite so there wasn't enough in store that fitted me.

The second was that I'd not long had my colours done and advised that I really shouldn't wear black and around 90% of what she brought me was black. I was consciously trying not to buy more and I'd explained that before we started.

So I think it depends if you're in the average zone and how flexible you are on style and colours.
