Flakey flu face

How is it that everyone's been SO I'll over Christmas but yet again I'm the only one who's face looks like the surface of the moon?

Bright red nose, flakey skin and cracked dry lips - I look a state! And that's after religiously exfoliating, I even had a go with a baby toothbrush! I've also slathered myself in moisturiser, PawPaw lip stuff and went to bed a few nights with a full face of sudocrem.

Where am I going wrong or what are you lot doing to avoid this!

I use Otrivan (sp) when I have a cold which means I don't get the flaky nose.

BunloafAndCrumpets · 02/01/2018 18:46

I use balsam tissues, my nose doesn't flake any more, they are brilliant. Been using them since Xmas eve this time Xmas Hmm

Bridechilla · 02/01/2018 19:48

I'm on the balsam now!

8 hour cream!

GTD17 · 02/01/2018 20:11

Sudocreme is actually drying I second 8 hour cream for everything it is amazing stuff

Mulberrysilk · 02/01/2018 20:14

LRP cicaplast b5 baume.

RoseWhiteTips · 02/01/2018 20:28

Vaseline is excellent for treating a sore nose and for preventing flaking - the only thing that works for lips too.

Bridechilla · 02/01/2018 20:32

Oh feck, really? Google failed me on the sudocrem.

Bridechilla · 02/01/2018 20:33

I'm actually looking for a new moisturiser now, so 8hr might be a good investment regardless

Sudocrem is really drying, it's banned as a barrier cream in healthcare now.

I like la Roche Cicaplast for when my nose is falling off or Avene Cicalfate.

Plus only the Kleenex Balsam tissues will do.

meep87 · 02/01/2018 21:10

Lots & lots of Avene Cicafalte!

NC4now · 02/01/2018 21:23

Sounds mad but I use Head and Shoulders on my flaky nose. It’s the only thing that works.
I suppose it’s the same principle as dandruff, isn’t it 🤣

FreezerBird · 02/01/2018 21:27

Bepanthen nappy rash cream. It doesn't look great (!) but I put it on my nose when I go to bed when I know I'm getting a cold and every night I am snotty. My nose falls off a lot less now; it's brilliant stuff.

And yes, balsam tissues.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 02/01/2018 21:29

I always use sudocrem overnight when I have a heavy cold and never get the flaky skin. Other moisturisers really hurt on very dry, rubbed skin.
Balsam tissues in the day.

travailtotravel · 02/01/2018 21:29

This is why I keep a tub of blue nivea in the cupboard. Slather all over and sleep 😁

hugoagogo · 02/01/2018 21:30

Real hankies (old t-shirts will do) and superdrug 'little soothing tin' on nosey and lips. Also eucerin 5% urea cream.

Bridechilla · 02/01/2018 21:31

I can't handle a real hankie 🤢

OhOfCourse · 02/01/2018 22:10

I "third" 8 hour cream!!

Doobigetta · 02/01/2018 22:13

This will be me in a couple of days. I haven't started flaking yet but my face is on fire because I've spent the lasy 24 hours scrubbing at it with tissues. Even though they're balsam ones. I just tried putting plain sweet almond oil on it, and even that burned. It's ridiculous how such a trivial illness has the power to make you feel so bloody miserable, isn't it Sad

notyounanbread · 02/01/2018 22:22

I use Blistex around my nostrils. It’s the only thing that stops me getting a horrible, scabby, painful nose.

Nearlythere35 · 02/01/2018 22:44

Neutrogena hand cream for your nose and blistex intensive Moisturiser for your lips.

rightknockered · 02/01/2018 23:33

Weleda nappy cream is wondrous at healing cracked skin. And Weleda skin food to protect your skin.

BagelGoesWalking · 02/01/2018 23:39

Stop any exfoliation, your poor skin is feeling fragile and tender already - it doesn't need you rubbing away at it! I'd recommend a tube of Diprobase from the chemist. Just keep slathering it on.

Kitsharrington · 03/01/2018 00:13

Water water water! Dry lips are from dehydration. Nothing you can put on them will help like drinking more water.

Tantpoke · 03/01/2018 02:11

Vaseline worked wonders for my dry flaky cold ridden red nostrils
