Ankle boots ok with smart office dresses?

PlumFairy2014 · 01/01/2018 19:41

Will it look ok to have ankle boots (like the link below) with office dresses or would knee highs be better?

Struggling to find smart knee high boots (pref navy or tan), think black would look a bit much?

I think you need to match the level of formal-ness (is that a word?!) between dress and boots.

The ones you’ve linked are probably too casual for say a tailored pencil dress, but ok with something flowery with a cardigan.

I have some shoe boots I wear with formal work dresses and keep the ankle boots for trousers and more casual dresses.

PlumFairy2014 · 01/01/2018 19:51

I will be toning down the office dresses with cardio and scarf, to make them a bit more casual. Then with boots?
It involves a long walking commute and some being outdoors, so I'm a bit stumped shoe wise. Heels are a no!

I wear similar ankle boots with skirts and dresses all the time for work.

Can’t do heels either.

We’re a very mixed office though with some in suits/ very formal dresses and some in jeans and t-shirts.

SparklyLights · 01/01/2018 20:18

Are you planning on a bare leg/nude tights with your smart office dress? If so I think it will all look a bit boho from the waist downwards.

If you were wearing black opaques then black ankle boots (discreet, nothing shout-out, smallish heel not completely flat heel etc) would probably be ok.

VivaLeBeaver · 01/01/2018 20:24

I think so.

I’ve just bought these boots. Bargain in the sale, look good and very comfy. They have a very small heel but feel like you’re wearing flats. You need to size up though.

cod · 01/01/2018 20:33

NONE of the boots linked on here. You need a heel and a slimmer look
they are too casual

cod · 01/01/2018 20:36

These are good if you want a lower heel - i wear with tube skirts above knee and a hush dress

Prefer these but am on my feet all day www.clarks.co.uk/c/Amabel-Rio/p/26127454

also like Boden etta

BestIsWest · 01/01/2018 21:37

Lol at that being a lower heel Cod. I wish Grin. They are nice though.

VivaLeBeaver · 01/01/2018 22:22

Cod, did you miss the bit where she said no heel? Grin

I would count those as high heels!

PlumFairy2014 · 01/01/2018 22:26

I think I would break my neck of ankle hush!

This is a mine field. So easy for the men, they all wear suits.

Black tights, which I'm thinking will keep it smarter.

Oops I did !! Sorry. we read whst we want to see

No to flat boots then. gavel

NC4now · 02/01/2018 10:40

Can you post an example of the type of dress you’ll be wearing?
There MUST be a stylish and practical solution to this!

AuldAlliance · 02/01/2018 10:46

Agree that we need pictures of the outfits.
Would these do? They're not totally flat, but not v high:

Or something like this:

PlumFairy2014 · 02/01/2018 10:53

Like this one;

With a cardi and scarf to tone it down. It's not an officey office.

Something like this?

(I am in France, but you can change the settings to your country and language...)

Ididnthearanything · 02/01/2018 11:10

None of those flat ones nor the knee high one are right for dresses like the Next dress. You need a higher heel or give up the search and go for a shoe.

cod · 02/01/2018 11:20

If it’s not a dressy office just wear some trousers or a stretch skirt then

NC4now · 02/01/2018 11:27

I think if you’re dresssing it down you could go with something like these from Next.

Kind of like the style in the picture.

Ankle boots ok with smart office dresses?
PlumFairy2014 · 02/01/2018 12:03

I'm wearing these cod because occasionally there are meetings for which I will need to wear them, I'll keep a suit jacket and smart shoes in the office for such occasions.
This is why I'm finding it so tricky!
