Tightlining

Deecee1012 · 01/01/2018 13:30

I really like the look/definition of tightlining but whenever I try it, the liner goes onto the bottom waterline.
It then looks messy.
I've tried an array of liners.
Any ideas really welcome.

I just shut my eye on the pencil and then tidy up with a cotton bud.

Have you tried a 'hard/solid' eyeliner? One that needs to be dampened with water then applied with a brush- this type works perfectly!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/01/2018 14:24

What actually is tightlining? I know its something to do with an eyeliner near the lashes but what does it do (and of course how is it done? )
Flowers TIA

Oldraver · 01/01/2018 14:31

When I saw the title I thought it was dress/coat lining that was tight

So out of touch

ScarfAndGlassesgirl · 01/01/2018 14:33

It's when you put eyeliner in the upper...Not sure what it's called...membrane (ha!?) Of your upper eyelash line...like under your eyelashes and next to your eyeball

Sorry I'm explaining that so badly!

SesameSparkle · 01/01/2018 14:41

Laura mercier sell a solid eyeliner in a compact for tightlining, which you can apply with one of their flat brushes and a little water. I learnt to apply by looking down towards a mirror held below my face and applying the product through my lashes with the flat brush, wiggling the brush from side to side to get it right into the lash line. Once you get more experienced with this sort of technique it's easier to apply other types of products directly onto the lash line.

I have no problem actually lining but everything I've tried transfers to the bottom waterline.

And then I look like Shirley from Eastenders.

PetiteMarseillaise · 01/01/2018 14:49

I have that Laura Mercier eyeliner block, and it leaves me with panda eyes.

I use gel eyeliners, either in pencil form or in jars (Bobbi Brown or Maybelline) using a brush, and I've found these don't transfer or smudge for me.

Which ones have you tried OP?

Deecee1012 · 01/01/2018 15:11

Thanks for all the replies...I've tried various gel eyeliner, enough 'pencils' to start an art school! I've even tried eyeshadow.
I've also gone from cheap and cheerful to high end(ish).
Looks brilliant for a few minutes and then I turn into a giant panda :-(

Ohh ok, I get it. Do you need to pull your eyelid up and roll it back?

My stomach is churning a bit at the thought but I have really shabby eyelashes and even shabbier eyebrows so any tricks are worth a try Smile

flimp · 01/01/2018 16:34

I do this with those eyeliners that are like felt tips.

flimp · 01/01/2018 16:35

Like this one: Stila

Lndnmummy · 01/01/2018 17:34

I use a liquid one from 17 it’s a joke. £2 something and it does not budge or transfer. I had tried all the high end ones. Another trick is not to blink until the pencil has dried. Also try to push the product well into the lash line rather than upper waterline as it is less likely to transfer. I use a cotton pad and run it alonf the upper waterline to ensure there is no product there.

Tisgrand · 01/01/2018 20:05

I got a little Bobbi Brown eye palette for Christmas which included a little pot of gel eyeliner and a tiny applicator brush. Its the business, been tightlining with it and it doesnt budge or transfer. Think the shade is Caviar ink which is a very dark grey. I had it on on Xmas day for 14 hours and it was perfect at the end of day. I did try not to blink for a few seconds after applying.

I don't go onto the upper waterline but instead line between my eyelashes. The aim is to make it look as though you have very densely growing lashes.

vaz119 · 01/01/2018 21:07

I've tried loads but anyways end up with panda eyes. I recently bought this Cyo one from boots which im really liking. I just wiggle it between my lashes from underneath. It's meant to be waterproof so it doesn't smear on me and just makes my lashes look much thicker. It does seem to come in and out of stock though. I've never heard of the brand but for £4.50 thought I'd give it a try and I'm liking it so far. Previously my favourite one was stila stay all day but this is a bit easier to use (and cheaper)

EllaHen · 01/01/2018 21:13

I did this when I was at school. Uni too probably. So, at least 25 years ago. I can't imagine I ever used anything resembling expensive eyeliner. I loved the look.

I stopped because I reckoned I might be doing my eyes damage. Who knows?

No advice as I don't remember ever having an issue. Use cheap eyeliner?

building2017 · 01/01/2018 21:20

This Collection eyeliner is £2.99 and unmovable.

ArchchancellorsHat · 02/01/2018 11:05

I used to use a dark eyeshadow and a brush, and get it into the lash line rather than the skin underneath. It didn't go everywhere or get into my eyes.

yrhengi · 02/01/2018 15:32

Laura Mercier cake liners and a fine, flat brush, aiming between the lashes, not on the watery part. It's incredibly flattering once you get the knack and much less harsh on (ahem) more mature eyelids than eyeliner that has applied all wobbly because your eyelids have gone crepey sob
