Why are all wellies Hunters

babigailwabble · 01/01/2018 11:06

Ok I know they aren't. But the ones I like are. Except I hate hunters, they are heavy and stiff and I'm replacing a pair that died imo prematurely relative to cost Angry

I am considering a pair of short, glossy green ones. But they are hunters. When I google all I find are reams and reams of hunters, joules Envy, le Cham (yawn), muck boots. Am I missing something? There must be more to wellies in 2017!

The ones I really want are rockfish sweet pea short glossy but I think they are old stock as they aren't stocked in a 6 anymore.

I've also seen some devastating fairfax and favour boots (flat, Regina) and my finger is hovering. Are they a bit upper middle class (well yes, but ubiquitously?). I'm not one of those country casual Kate Middleton wannabes like the blog I found when googling for more pictures ..... they've just grabbed me! Although KMW has described them as slippery on her blog which might be a deal breaker as I'm great at falling over...

I have le chameaus and more practical muck boots, wellies, duck boots etc.

But for festivals or something I want a bit more style for I love my ilse jacobsen wellies.

AlwaysColdHands · 01/01/2018 19:46

Second le chameau (I've got ones with proper walking sole) after several pairs of hunters cracked and fell apart. Well worth the money, lasted me years so far worn twice a day most of the year for dog walks Smile

ButteredScone · 01/01/2018 19:55

Wellies are my main footwear at the weekend and I have to occasionally wear them for work as well. They are pretty critical.

DH, who wears his most of the time, has the calf skin lined Le Chameaus. Per wear he reckons he has never had better value. After him doing a serious sales pitch I tried some on but although they wear obviously hard wearing and good quality they just weren't stylish enough to justify the price tag!

These would be my first choice if money is no object. In the end I went for the short version and I love them - though it took me a while to get used to the tassel.

RespoDad · 01/01/2018 20:01

Why would you want to buy wellies from Greggs?

Madbengalmum · 01/01/2018 20:03

Hunter are now garbage, if you can afford it go le chameau, but for cheaper aigle.

babigailwabble · 01/01/2018 20:19

i know LC are good wellies but i don't need anything super heavy duty/have no cause to spend that much. also their designs are boring. i really want a calf height pair.

I have these Doc Martens as my work boots.

They are indestructible, incredibly waterproof, but more importantly, much admired.

Luckingfovely · 01/01/2018 20:42

I adore my Aigles that are still going strong after 10 years+ heavy use. They are brilliant.

ArkAtEee · 02/01/2018 00:57

I also have some Aigles that are still in great condition after 5 years.

AmethystMoon · 02/01/2018 08:35

Aigle fan here too. Hunters are rubbish quality these days and yet people still buy them?!Confused
Had my Aigle pair for a year now and they’re getting is as new. I wear them several times per week. Shock absorbers make them super comfortable.

AmethystMoon · 02/01/2018 08:36

I really should preview my posts. It should say they’re as good as new!Blush

I’m a country boots convert. Hunters firmly at the back of the cupboard. Waterproof country boots is what you need, Dublin river boots are very good. www.dublinclothing.co.uk/products/casual-footwear/dublin-river-boots

VanillaSugar · 02/01/2018 11:10

Can you answer a question?

Is it Du BARRY boots?
Or pronounced Doo-berr--ree?

I've heard both and now I'm Confused

BikeRunSki · 02/01/2018 13:12

I work outdoors. Nothing beats Dunlop Work wellies for weatherproofness, comfort and durability.

NauticalDisaster · 02/01/2018 13:20

Something from Derby House in their country boots range: www.derbyhousestore.com/en-UK/Derby-House-Elite-Waterproof-Long-Country-Boots/dh5148770.htm?colour=Brown

I like Sainsbury's wellies, they have some really pretty designs and are fine if you're just wearing them a couple of times a week.

Bumblina · 02/01/2018 20:42

I have £100 hunters and my DP has £10 racing green Dunlops - his are way comfier and do the job . Maybe not uber trendy but the colour is spot on!

TheLuminaries · 02/01/2018 20:50

My Ariat neoprene lined wellies are my winter wellies, Joules welliebobs for summer. But I choose my wellies for practicality and don't care about brand 'image'. Dublin River boots are OK to a point (I own a pair), but won't withstand the sort of winter wear I need wellies for.

fishybits · 02/01/2018 20:52

Muck boots.

DH has Dunlops which are fine for the garden and relatively flat ground - no ankle support.

babigailwabble · 08/01/2018 20:52

everyone i found some by Sorel which i have purchased and taken the tags off! thank goodness as i'd also bought a horrible £15 emergency pair which i have now returned!
