Makeup: brushes versus hands!

I've always put my foundation on with my hands but gave recently bought some brushes as they're supposed to be better. I just feel I dont get the same coverage with a brush and that all the makeup ends up in the brush and not on my face - what do you all use or advise?

I tend to use a damp sponge as I think it gives the best coverage.

Use fingers then blend with damp beauty blender, better finish than with a brush.

I used to use my fingers then for the same reasons you mentioned I moved to a brush. However, I've now gone back to my fingers. I can be much more precise, the product doesn't get lost amongst the bristles, the coverage is exactly what I want, it's more comfortable in my skin and crucially: I always wash my hands thoroughly before and during application whereas I washed my brush maybe once a week on a good week

Damp Beauty Blender and bounce it on. Nothing else comes close.

I do apply BB cream with my hands as that gives the best result for some reason.

Thehairthebod · 01/01/2018 12:21

Yep, bounce a damp beauty blender all over your face until it is pounded into flawlessness!

I can't get on with brushes at all, I can't get an even coverage and no matter how much I blend it still leaves marks. Beauty blender all the way!

NewIdeasToday · 01/01/2018 12:24

Interesting thread. Do people recommend real beauty blenders or are copies y Superdrug etc just as good?

Thehairthebod · 01/01/2018 12:31

I use Real Techniques beauty blender things, and they are great - never used the branded one so can't compare.

LazyDailyMailJournos · 01/01/2018 16:18

I don't use a brush - I find I end up using far more product with a brush than if I apply by hand and then blend.

I dab on with my fingers and then blend like a demon! I use the RT blenders.

PollyPerky · 01/01/2018 16:28

what is a beauty blender?

I have 3 expensive foundation brushes. I find that they work best for the 2nd layer once you have used your fingers to apply a light coat.

You can use a stippling motion with some brushes which gives good coverage or I find brushes are good for using on eyelids and really getting foundation into the corner of the eye by the nose, where it's often a blue colour.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 01/01/2018 16:53

Fingers.

Free, easy to clean, just the right size and the warmth helps blend the foundation in.

Jerseysilkvelour · 01/01/2018 16:57

I use fingers, brush or sponge depending on the foundation! Some apply better with each method. So worth experimenting to see which suits your foundation of choice.

I find a really dense brush works best, I like the angled ones sold as contour brushes.

Sponge wise, the Superdrug B ones are relatively cheap and pretty good, or the real techniques orange one (tho those don't last long in my experience) so either of those will let you try a sponge without the cost of a beauty blender.

There's only one foundation I use fingers for.

Has to be the original brand-name Beauty Blender for me. Lasts forever, cleans up so quickly and easily, lovely results. I also got one of the v small ones to use under eyes to blend concealer and I love that too!

I even use my damp BB to apply powder. I just love the finish.

I got a Lancôme foundation brush as a free gift - assistant recommended it - was sort of OK but ended up,using a lot more product and it took longer than fingers to,blend in. Plus didn’t get into corner (between top of nose and eyes). Though was nice not getting fingers mucky
