Talk to me about 'natural' looking makeup

It is my New Years resolution to wear more makeup (more than the none I currently wear.)

I would like to wear ‘natural’ looking makeup, as I don’t want to shock myself too much when I see someone else’s face looking back at me from the mirror!

I have looked online for tutorials but they all seem to involve a lot of products and want me to buy things from their website/blog.

If you wear this sort of makeup what products to you use/swear by? -and how long do you spend doing makeup in the morning?

My main issue is dark under eye circles and huge pores on my cheeks and nose, so any tips for dealing with this would be great.

(I put some concealer, not I "can" some concealer. Bloody autocorrect)

Don’t know if anyone has already suggested this but check out Lisa Eldridge’s tutorials on you tube.

She has done some natural looks, as well as tonnes of others, and she’s utterly lovely.

Hi

I like natural make up.
I use
Nivea tinted moisturiser instead of foundation
Non-glittery bronzer
Rimmel brown and taupe eyeshadows
Maybelline mascara
Rimmel eyebrow mascara (not needed if your brows are dark. Mine are blonde.)
Rimmel natural rose lipstick

If you want to reduce pores, I find the Benefit pore cream is brilliant and smooth. It's also good at reducing dark circles. I use it for that too when needed.

Putting on the whole lot takes 5 mins max. Apply pore cream to afflicted areas. Apply small amount of tinted moisturiser and massage in gently.
Brush non-glittery bronzer over cheekbones.
Put medium dark shadow on eyelid, paler shadow under the eye and on the brow bone if wanted, a tiny, thin smudge of dark shadow under the eye instead of liner, (take off excess with cotton bud if needed). Then slick of mascara and of lipstick.

I definitely prefer natural makeup. I use the following:

A little Touche Eclat under my eyes and from my nose to the corners of my mouth, blended gently with a finger, and Bare Minerals over any little spots (again blended gently)
No 7 City Lights tinted moisturiser, again, blend blend blend! I like that one as it is spf15.
Blusher - Benefit dandelion powder is a good shade for me. Just a small amount on my cheeks and a tiny bit on my nose
Eyebrow pencil as mine are very light - I use a Bare Minerals one. I ut a small amount on and blend with the wand brush thingy on the end of the pencil.
Mascara.
I wear red lipstick quite often, but to make it lighter I apply lipbalm first, then apply a small amount of lipstick to the centre of my lips and blend / spread it outwards with a finger. This gives a lighter, more sheer finish. Or I like Clinique Chubby Sticks as these are very moisturising.

Basically I don't try to transform or drastically change my face - just look like me, but after a good night's sleep Grin

Yes! I was trying to remember what brand my moisturizing lippy was but the writing has rubbed off. It's is Clinique Chubby Stick thanks @spudlet

No 7 foundation blended with a beauty blender or sponge, Collection concealer under the eyes, mascara on top lashes only and sometimes a natural look lipstick. That's all I do and it takes under 5 minutes.
For nights out, I might add eye shadow. I never learnt to do blusher or eyeliner. I don't really get the point of blusher anyway - I don't want more rosy cheeks, but I do have a photo of myself as a bridesmaid with professional makeup on and the blusher looks good.

A good foundation with the finish you like will be important.

Also how you apply it - it takes practise to apply natural looking makeup!

I use loreal true match foundation. Their ivory is nice and neutral and doesn't look orange on my pale skin. I apply with a foundation brush and pat down, and later more on the areas where it's needed. This works quite well for my acne and roseacia. You could go light enough not to really need blusher especially if you don't have acne or roseacia. Also tinted lip salve. I wish I had good enough skin not to bother though!

For me I've found that less is definitely more as my skin ages.
If I'm at home and not working I don't wear any, maybe some mascara if I have to go out lol.

My 'natural' look consists of LRP bb cream, some Hourglass Dim Light powder on my cheeks and also as an eyeshadow colour, Maybelline Brown Lip Stylo,Max Factor mascara, then either just lip salve or a quick swipe of Clinique Chubby in Strawberry.

I treated myself to the Hourglass powder about 9 months ago and I absolutely love it, I will save up to replace it.
