Dry skin - what do you use?

Hi,

I've always been reasonably lucky with my skin, and it's always looked fine. But recently I feel it's beginning to lose its bloom - I'm 39. I've always used an SPF moisturiser, since my mid-teens, so it's holding up pretty well, but I'd like to keep it that way as I get older.

My face is fairly dry. What you fellow dry skin people use on their faces? And what's your daily/weekly/monthly routine? Money isn't a concern, I'm just interested in products that are recommended so I can investigate. I've never found something that I thought was brilliant and that I must keep using, apart from Lush neck cream, and I've not seen that in a while.

Thanks!

Boots own tissue hydrating mask

AnotherOtter · 03/01/2018 08:38

I tried Avène anti-redness cleanser ( www.boots.com/beauty/facial-skincare/cleanser-toner/avene-antirougeurs-clean-cleanser-200ml-10237658 ) after seeing it recommended on here and it's been good for my dry and sensitive skin. The Avène cleanser specifically for dry skin is too perfumed for me though that's probably just me as I don't like most perfumes.

Boots:

Beautiful skin cleanser
Hydration mask
Youthful juvenating oil
Moisturiser

Works for me.

BumWad · 03/01/2018 08:53

I have oily skin but have started using acids and retinol so have had some dryness.

Cetpahil moisturise cream is brilliant
Indeed Labs Hydraluron and the Hydraluron serum are also very good
A good hydrating oil at night like the Clarins orchid one

Smile

Astral, a couple of times a week. A wash off cream cleanser, hydrating serum. A rich facial oil like avocado or Argan every so often as well as moisturiser.

ginorwine · 03/01/2018 18:24

Look at the ordinary products ? They work out individual regimes if you contact the company that sells them .
Also have return policy if you don't like them .
The rose hip oil is great .

Either Nivea in the blue tub or LRP Cicaplast.

CaseStudyResearch · 03/01/2018 21:12

I use Alpha H cleansers, any toner with glycolic acid and then Kiehls Ultra Facial cream. It's so moisturising without being too greasy or clogging.

hownowpowpow · 04/01/2018 14:04

I use Weleda Skin Food. Found it brilliant when my skin got super dry. It's very thick and ointment like so I only use it at night or if I'm not going anywhere in the day. Brilliant stuff.

BusterGonad · 04/01/2018 14:52

Decleor Iris night balm in the little glass jar!

DaisyRenton18 · 04/01/2018 15:40

Boots too! I love the beautiful skin hydrating mask, but must admit I don't bother washing it off afterwards. I just leave a thin layer on overnight two or three times a week, and that seems to work fine.

During the day I've just started using a Clinique serum (Christmas present!) and that's made a major difference already. That's been quite remarkable.

I can't get on with Nivea in the blue tub, although it seems to work miracles for everyone else so that might be worth a try.

Arronsmissus · 04/01/2018 15:46

Boots No 7 youthful oil
Night creams instead of day creams
Drinks lots of water

Arronsmissus · 04/01/2018 15:47

Oh acid pads you can use daily. I use Superdrug ones

Fintress · 04/01/2018 15:50

I have tried everything under the sun and nothing seemed to make a difference, then I tried Boots new range YourGoodSkin and it works for me. I use the serum and moisturiser during the day. However do not put it near your eyes, as it took me a while to realise that my streaming eye (just one) was down to the cream.

CablesCables · 05/01/2018 10:37

Thanks, I'll have a little look, see what I fancy.

I've recently got in Nip and Fab Soften Kale Fix Moisturizer, it really soothes my dry sensitive skin and leaves a lovely dewy glow!

BusterGonad · 06/01/2018 17:06

Got in to, I mean!

FairfaxAikman · 06/01/2018 17:10

I scalded my face in my teens, which resulted in dry and tight skin. (Luckily no scarring due to quick actions of bystanders)
I discovered Aveeno a couple of years back and it's been a game changer. Put it on in the morning and my skin doesn't feel tight all day.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 06/01/2018 17:30

I use Clinique moisture surge in the jar after serum and before moisturiser.

They do a serum too.

Yazoop · 06/01/2018 21:00

The clinique moisture surge overnight mask is brilliant too - it is like a cream and you leave it on overnight. Particularly great for skin that's dehydrated due to central heating etc - I always use it in the winter when my cheeks get dehydrated and sensitive and it works wonders!

It might be worth looking at whether you have dry or dehydrated skin - they can be different (or you might have both, but they need different solutions): www.laroche-posay.co.uk/the-difference-between-dry-dehydrated-skin

I tend to get dehydrated skin particularly around the cheek area - the skin can get dull, sensitive and a little flaky. My nose and upper forehead remains a little oily, so I'm more combination than dry.

If you do have dehydration, I recommend using either the Avene or Vichy hydrating serums - I use one of these in the morning before moisturiser and it makes a world of difference.

Also, the Avene thermal spring water spray (for both dehydrated and dry skins) is a lovely mist to use on your face when you feel you need it (particularly if you are in central heated or air conditioned environments that dry your face out further). I was sceptical about what water sprays achieve, but got a free one in a special offer and it makes a huge difference on bad days - making my skin much less dull and not so sensitive.

cazzyc · 06/01/2018 21:03

I’ve seen a huge difference since stepping up exfoliation. I thought you only had to do once a week but now I use Clarins gentle exfoliated every other morning in the shower and at night, I used Origins cleansing oil which I remove with a flannel. It’s made the world of difference.

Yazoop · 06/01/2018 21:05

Forgot to add that dry is a lack of oil in the skin, and dehydrated a lack of water. So you need to tackle which one is causing your skin to lose its sparkle).

If you happen to have both dry and dehydrated skin, Clarins' Double Serum is a 2-in-1 anti-ageing serum that tackles both conditions at once - I haven't tried it as my skin is not really dry, but I've heard it is really good.

sammy891 · 07/01/2018 23:10

My skin has become drier and I've switched to a gentle cream wash instead which has made a huge difference, the La Roche Posay Toleraine cleanser.
