How to talk hairdresser?

I have always had trouble talking to hairdressers, after nearly ten years I have to find a new one as mine has moved away.
How can I explain I want the overall shape short and cut into a bit, but not pointy like Susan off neighbours?

I would say thinned out and not blunt on the ends.

When I wanted a big change, The best thing I found was taking in photos of what I liked, but also what I didn't like.

My hairdresser said that it helped a lot

hugoagogo · 28/12/2017 20:37

See I am totally crap, I want the ends blunt and I wouldn't want it thinned either.

Ask for it to be soft. I would try and find a good picture of what you want front and back if possible.

harrietsoton · 28/12/2017 20:57

Agreed, I would go in with photos to make sure that they are on the same page in terms of style/length. Bring in both what you want and don’t want and explain how you want blunt ends. Do you have photos of your own hair freshly cut?

I haven't any good photos of me no.
Looking on the internet the best I can find is Natalie Portman in Mr magoriams wonder emporiam, but it's a wee bit long. Nearly all the hairstyle pictures I can find look feathery and pointy to my eyes, I suppose that's the fashion, but it doesn't suit me, it makes my hair look like it's grown out and straggly in a couple of weeks.Confused

Pinterest! When I talked to my hairdresser she shipped out her tablet and showed me loads and did a quick board of those i liked

Could you ask your old hairdresser to explain your style and what to ask for? If not, get a group of pictures ready so you can visually explain the aspects that you like/dislike. I think they should be able to figure out what you want from there.

Also you can post your general location and see if anyone has a trustworthy salon recommendationSmile

I'm a hairdresser and if my client's struggle to know what they want, I ask what they don't want. Most people definitely know what they don't want.

I pick my photos off Pinterest! Loads and loads there. Always show the hairdresser them

Mylady · 29/12/2017 07:13

2 photos at least ! So mych easier if you can show me what you mean by cut into rarther than just words ! And if you know what you don't want - take a picture as well x
