Chango, for further dresses (saw a lot of French shops yesterday), Promod is very hit and miss fabric wise but they do sell the typical French dresses at lower prices with lower hemlines. Devernois and Caroll Paris are more your average 30+ brand in France (so a tad dull) but good for anyone who actually needs office wear. Sessun, Des Petits Hauts, Les Petites, and Swildens have a bit more of a casual vibe but would work in a more casual office. Essentiel Antwerp, also have nice dresses now and then but I find them a tad overpriced as a brand and the fabrics don't really match up to that price tag.
I did also discover a new brand, Drolatic, which has really lovely casual, relaxed easy dresses and casual wear. All very summery though, it seems to be new-ish, and it seems really suitable for high heat/humidity climates as it's all very loose on the body but still flattering. And I did just discover whilst googling that search result number 4 is a shop that carries them (along with a whole host of other French niche brands) in Singapore and they have a shop in Sydney too. small.com.sg/
Speaking of Singapore, yes can definitely imagine it being tough, spent a few weeks there for a wedding and the weather was challenging to say the least. Not only the humidity but you're in and out of (very dry) airconditioned spaces all the time and the locals all dress quite formally and demure. Lots of pastels if I recall and they'll dress up to go to browse a mall, etc. Status is a big thing too, high importance on signifiers of wealth. Though I was the sickest I've ever been there on the last two days before leaving and had to be propped up with I don't want to remember what kind of lethal cocktail to be able to fly back home, I was hallucinating through most of it (before the drugs ever kicked in) so possibly this is all some odd figment of the imagination posing as a memory
For the Australians, I sometimes watch Mademoiselle on YouTube and she often showcases interesting Aussie brands. I can find her a bit tiring though, it's all capsule wardrobe monochrome wardrobes with a bit of pattern, I thought she was well into her thirties but she's about to turn 30, and she's already in the mindset that 'she's too old for lots of things' so I tend to dip in and out. She mentions Karen Walker quite a lot and those things look interesting, also Everlane for basics which is an ethical online brand but very J. Crew-esque, I think American but delivers to Aus (but not here [angy]).
I don't think we've really covered skin tone/undertone with red lipstick match, just mainly shouted out suggestions. I think some articles were linked, I know I've posted this one before but that really only goes into the very basic colouring spectrum of orange v blue. The Kiko is a neutral/true red at 114 and then down to 113 it goes pink and blue to a berry, then up at 115 to oranges. Bingo, I think the list I drew up for cherries (perhaps she can repost if she made a note of it) would work for you as well. Luna, same list but focus on the ones that are more pinkish in hue like the Chanel limited edition (I want to say 1) and Sisley Geisha one (think L25).
mrsreynolds are you looking for advice for once you've lost the weight or during? If it's the former I'd just hold off, you never know where you'll end up and what your shape is like until you get there. I've been promising to get round to summer/spring wardrobes but it's a lot all at once so it'll come in bits over the next few weeks, I suspect.
Proper, if you're making a digital list do you mind sharing it somehow. Ability to add to it also useful as a reference for everyone on here. I've started putting in brands in bold (when I'll remember) to make it easier.
Ah the semi tuck, it is Parisian in origin, the French Vogue team really popularised it. IME it works best with a low rise or a medium rise worn as low rise (depends where your waist sit). I could do it at a 10 but at a 12 it looked wrong, it'll vary wildly per person. The full tuck only works for me if it's high rise and there needs to be high contrast in volume and whatever is voluminous needs to be a material that does that well, eg. a stiff shirt in tight skinny jeans looks rigid, but unless you're a very angular body slinky silk on slinky silk (or similar) just ends up looking drab.
Currently, I'm more into the 'half-hearted tuck', so either only on one side asymmetrically (much like in pic 3) or only on the front middle to create a sort of reverse v, about a hand widths worth (sometimes two) of material.
kittyhello, if it's stiffer denim shirt, I find they work well as a jacket/blazer type thing. Fold up sleeves and wear over dresses or a tee. If you're not long and lean like Freja Beha Erichsen in pic 1 (not Parisian, I know, but she's like an honorary one) then play with raising the waist on the shirt/high rise and length of the shirt so there's a noticeable contrast so it emphasises a sort of waist hidden in there rather than ending up looking like a block.
Exciting the Miu Mius worked out for you, Elle. I'm quite taken with them myself, didn't realise they could be worn without the satin bands which were my main concerns (busy ankles don't work well for me anymore, weirdly enough). What colour did you get? I'm very tempted by the Stella Lunas as well, especially the styles with all the buckles, saw some fab ones at &Other Stories yesterday in the new collection but quite highly priced for them (175 or 200 euros) but already sold out except in the smallest and largest size. Will post a pic from my phone later on. They did make me think the Stella Lunas were once again very reasonable and can't make up my mind whether to just go ahead and place an order or hold on until I'm in Paris which is in about 3 weeks. Think I'll wait until the 10th when the official Paris sales start, if things look to suddenly be shifting or discounted more I won't hold off. Although I still haven't narrowed down which ones I want exactly
Yes, bloomed, I think pretty much all lightweight silk trousers crease but as long as they're not a formal pair I feel it adds to the character of them. I like them slouchy so it feels purposeful and too tight silk pants is asking for trouble as the seams will break the fabric as they're stronger than the fabric.
If you get the ones in darker patterns the creasing isn't all that noticeable. I usually get at least one pair per year as they're just the best for high heat, I'd love to find a pair that's basically open at the sides for great movement and airing possibilities. I do think they're great for humid climates though, it helps 'steam' them a bit so you get that washed silk look with them. Saw some fab ones of those from a brand called bananatime
, made me think of banana, were pricey though (300euros, not in the sale) but lovely silk, nice stretchy waist, etc.
Sorry to hear, exploding, Costume National is notoriously small. I do miss when pants were super long. All wide legged pants I'm coming across in shops are cropped which is about ankle length on me, which looks awful, taking it up to be cropped even worse.
