My hairs snapped off

And I look like a mushroom! Not very much, but the top layer, so noticeable.

Bleaching damage. Had it for a while now, but really want it sorted in the new year. Thinking about extensions - asked my spray tan lady and she said it'd be difficult because it's the top layer and extensions obviously go underneath, but said she could thin it out, then quoted me £700 Shock

I'm happy to pay £400ish all in. But would this work? I have a pot of elasticiser that I cba using as needs to go on for so long, but going to start putting it on overnight every week. Any other tips?

Redken Anti-snap is meant to be good. I take Biotin every day for my hair and nails and it's helping.

The other thing is heat; use a good heat protector every time you dry or style it.

Sorry I don't think extensions are a good idea. They won't look good with a short top layer however it's thinned out and will probably snap off your remaining hair if it's damaged.

Elaticizer is easy to use. Apply to the mid lengths/ends of your hair, leave for 10 mins under a shower cap and towel and then shampoo as normal. You don't have to leave it overnight.
All it will do is prevent further damage, it won't repair your hair.

I think you should save your £700, stop using bleach and get a much shorter cut. A layered bob might be an option? A graduated style to your shoulders or a fringe to blend in your shorter bits.

Just to add, if you can't be arsed putting a hair treatment on I think you'll hate having extensions.
They're extremely high maintenance and need a lot of care and special treatment and take ages to wash and brush.
I really think you'll struggle with it.

I've had extensions before, but yes I was a bit rubbish at the upkeep. Definitely stopped using bleach. Reallllly don't want to cut my hair.

It's not really that I cba. I just heard it's best on overnight (and its expensive so wanted to use it in the way it'll work best if that makes sense). But I have a crazy two year old who I can't leave unsupervised whilst I go in the shower and I work and go to uni etc etc so I only really have the time to wash my hair at night. Will definitely start popping it on for 10/20 minutes then from now on though.

This happened to me in Feb! I then paid 750 for extensions (that lasted around four months but got super knotty so had them taken out) but my hair had grown a little.... since having them out, I used Redken Anti - Snap (i bought them for the salon and they lasted until last month as you barely need anything, but you can buy them from Lookfantastic in the sale!)

I also bought olaplex and have been using that BUT the one thing that has really helped my hair is Coconut Oil! I bought some from Aldi, in a jar, and apply it to my hair whenever I can as it can be left overnight so I can even leave it on when I'm busy... it's been a really saviour for my hair, and surprisingly my hair is stronger than ever! Xx

I've nothing planned tomorrow, and I have coconut oil so I will put that on overnight tonight.

And will buy the redken stuff. Thanks!

Same
Thing happened to me with bleach. I’ve been using olaplex once a month and it’s really made a difference to my hair. It’s finally started growing back and getting some length. I’ve also had to cut down on the hairdryer and straighter use significantly.

Before that I was trying olive oil, coconut oil, you name it.

passemoilevin · 27/12/2017 21:25

I've heard lots about fake olapex online. Do you know anywhere legit to buy it?

I bought mine from a Salon Services - but you need a traders card etc to be able to purchase from them. Most salons will sell Number three, but it's number one and two that make the difference and repair the bonds... id maybe ask your hairdresser if they know about any legit sites? X

I understand being short of time in the mornings to faff about with a toddler and work. I just stick the elasticizor on in the evening before a bath or shower and then wash it out after.

Any deep conditioner with oils in is good, especially Argan or Moroccan oil. If you have time it's worth combing that through towel dried hair and sticking a shower cap and towel turban on for an hour when you can.

If you're kicking the bleach habit then I'd recommend a trim at least. Your hair will look healthier and grow more quickly when in good condition. Smile

Whatislife123 · 27/12/2017 22:49

Castor oil mixed with coconut oil or sweet almond oil as castor oil is very thick and needs another oil to thin it out. Trust me it works. Use twice per week. Leave for around 2 hours

DotCottonDotCom · 27/12/2017 22:55

Do you use the same shampoos and conditioners?

If you tend to use silicone laden conditioners over and over, it’ll get to the point your hair will become brittle. It’s always good to cleanse and go silicone free every now and again.

I’ve had Olaplex (1,2,3) used it for a year and I’m sorry, I honestly think it’s nothing. 2 and 3 are just diluted versions of 1.

Coconut oil is a great one however! I’d never be without it.

How often do you wash your hair? If you can make that less often it helps too (going silicone free can also help this)

This happened to me in Feb. I was like that girl in the YouTube vid who is curling her hair and a huge chunk of hair comes away with the curler. I was admiring the light blond colour and then I was like 'Uh-oh... Where is the rest of my hair?' It was bad but also funny.
The whole top section broke off - it was probably about 7cm left at the roots. I am still letting it grow now - the shortest bits are now down to my ears. I had shoulder length hair before. I had to get it cut into a modern bob to get rid of as much as the bleach damage as possible where my hair had gone mushy.
I swapped cheap shampoo/conditioner for v £ Aveda Damage Remedy. Also used the Elasticiser. Apogee Protein Treatment is very highly rated though smells terrible. Best of luck - it's a long long wait.

Mulberrysilk · 27/12/2017 23:18

Use the elasticizer. Its a magic potion. Honestly.
