What face care products do you consider essential?

Just that really.

Recently had a new baby and realised I don't even have makeup remover in the house despite the fact I wear makeup everyday. It must be terrible for my skin to go to bed without it so I'm determined to get some and always keep stocked up.

My skincare routine is non existent at the moment and I want to buy some new products and really start looking after it and I was wondering what do others consider essentials and what products do people recommend?
(preferably ones that don't cost an arm and a leg as I need to be able to restock when I'm out Blush).

Hydraluron serum from boots (which is ££) and Amie daily moisturiser in the pink tube from Waitrose, which is cheap

ilovecherries · 27/12/2017 12:12

Some kind of cleansing milk/lotion, serum, moisturizer, sun screen (which I wear every day)

ilovecherries · 27/12/2017 12:14

As for actual products, I think Boots No 7 and the Superdrug range are good (and the latter especially is cheap)

Cleansing balm
serum
acid toner
moisturiser
facial spf
oils

Get products you enjoy using!

You need a reliable way to clean your face, and a good moisturiser. Looking ahead to summer, a good SPF too. Everything else is adornment and just for fun, really.

I'm currently using Nip and Fab pads for cleaning, and Aldi Caviar for moisturising and my skin seems to like that. Both much recommended on MN!

I don't wear much make up, so don't have recommendations for removing (waterproof?) things that need an oil solvent.

I have really good skin and I use African black soap as a face wash, then cleanse with soap and glory apricot cleanser, then I moisturise with aloe Vera gel and cocoa butter.

I use garnier micellar water which shifts all of my eye and face make up really well and is about a fiver for a huge bottle when it's on offer, which seems to rotate between boots or superdrug.

Then the ordinary retinol or lactic acid at night, followed by rosehip oil - all about £6-8 a bottle, and a L'Oréal moisturiser that has an spf of 30 every morning.

PollyPerky · 27/12/2017 13:06

you don't need much.

Something to take your make up off- micellar water is cheap or some kind of balm and hot cloth.

Moisturiser

Sun block / primer with high spf used daily.

Serum is a bit of new invention and really is not essential imo. It is just another layer of moisturiser.

I've got good skin and use very little but it's consistency that counts; have used spf 30+ for 25 years every single day. Always cleanse, always use make up.

A good routine doesn't need to cost £££.

Make up remover - for eye make-up/mascara, I just use Simple's eye make up remover.

Cleansing balm - Superdrug do their own version of Liz Earle's Hot Cloth Cleanser and they also do a Vitamin E one. Bin the crap muslin cloth that comes with them and use ordinary flannels.

Acid toner - the Nip+Fab glycolic pads are fab and are often on offer in Superdrug.

Serum - Superdrug's Simply Pure hydrating serum is good and cheap as chips.

Moisturiser - again, try Superdrug, either the Vitamin E range or the Naturally Radiant range.

I've recently got the camomile cleansing balm from the body shop I've not used cleansing oils before but love using this at the end of the day to take make up off without my face feeling dried out. Still have prefer an exfoliating face wash in the morning. For moisturiser I'm happy with Nivea

ChishandFips33 · 28/12/2017 00:01

SPF and moisturiser

Also like Boots traditional glycerin and rose water for all of £2.50ish

Shmithecat · 28/12/2017 00:03

A good acid toner. Pixi Glow Tonic or Nip Fab extreme pads.
